I support clients through the vulnerable season of change through the use of acceptance, insight and practical tools to cope with the fears and discomfort of something different.
Something just feels "off". You are exhausted from looping in thoughts and patterns that are no longer serving you. You are overwhelmed by the state of things....the anxiety just won't go away, the grief is too much, the challenge is too big, the relationship is too far gone.... you secretly fear that you don't have what it takes to make the change you desire. Together we will uncover pain, fears and unmet desires that drive the spiral. We will rediscover and utilize your strengths to create a life that reflects your values.

I also utilize strengths based approaches and have a history of working with gifted and 2E (Twice Exceptional) individuals who struggle with anxiety due to high sensitivities and intensity.
Hello! I work with adolescents, parents, adults and couples. I create a safe space for individuals to explore and learn more about themselves. I aim to understand each individual's motivations and experience. I provide clients with insights that will help them get clarity about their circumstances in hopes of reducing symptoms. I provide psycho-education about the client's behavior and help them connect the links between their thoughts, feelings and actions. I utilize my clinical experience to determine what interventions and theoretical orientation makes the most sense for each individual to help support their progress.

I look forward to working with any psychological issues, but especially with clients expressing a sincere, motivating desire to change their life. I work with individuals (children & adults) and couples experiencing both deeper, long-term difficulties as well as more situational, short-term problems. While I work to help patients alleviate acute symptoms, it is often possible & advantageous to resolve the underlying causes of anxiety & depression in particular. My doctoral work also focused on Organizational Development. Clients facing work-related issues usually find this added perspective and training helpful.

I specialize in treating adults, teens, and children struggling with anxiety, depression, out-of-control behavior, high reactivity, dissociation, and the after-effects of traumatic events, including early childhood trauma.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, in a rut? Do you or your family have extra challenges because of adoption and pre-adoption history, insecure attachment, trauma, loss, or other complications? For adults and families touched by adoption or trauma, unconditional love and ordinary parenting skills are not always enough to prevent negative behaviors, anxiety, or depression in childhood or later in life. Finding a therapist with special training in these areas can make all the difference.

Many of the children I see exhibit problems paying attention and controlling their impulses, which interfere with making friends and with doing well in school while others struggle with anxiety and depression.
I treat adults as well as adolescents and children, most frequently through individual therapy. I also work with couples. I work with people with a wide range of problems and especially enjoy working with people experiencing anxiety in relationships or at work . I also enjoy working with people who are unhappy and don't know why, and people who are repeating self-defeating patterns they feel unable to change. Meeting with a well-trained and experienced therapist can be a powerful and effective way of strengthening one's confidence and developing a personal sense of control over one's life.

Some common reasons people come into therapy with me are: dissatisfaction with life and relationships, feeling isolated and alone, anger, patterns of co-dependence or care taking, drug abuse and addiction (computers included), desire to find purpose in life and step into power, feelings of self-judgment, anxiety and depression.
Stepping into therapy with someone is an inherently risky process. You are courageously opening up to someone that you don't really know, in hopes of changing, of finding something new, of building a relationship that can create positive change. I respect those who take the leap and I get the importance that you find the right therapist so that you can be understood at a deep level and begin looking more closely at the places in your life that you would like to see change.

I support families in developing the communication skills necessary to allow children to grow and move forward in healthy ways. You’re trying to be a good parent. You’re navigating how to communicate effectively with your teen, help them understand their emotions, and equip them with tools to navigate adulthood. You see them battle with anxiety, peer pressure, social situations, and academic demands. They’ve become withdrawn, stressed, and are falling behind in school. Watching them struggle has been tough, especially because they no longer confide in you. You see their relationships declining, along with their mental health, and you feel helpless about how to make things better. You wish you knew what to do and want nothing more than to see them thrive.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
