I am interested in working with a person who is committed to understanding and undertaking the therapeutic process. This looks like a willingness to be vulnerable and honest, to dig deep into the state of their mind and body and address the traumas that they may be holding, and ultimately to develop a relationship with me that can facilitate their healing. I specialize in eating disorders, depression, anxiety, family and relational conflicts, and women's issues.

People come to therapy for a lot of different reasons. Everyday life can be filled with disappointment, sadness, and situations and people that make you feel angry or hopeless. Past trauma or patterns of thinking may be holding you back or causing anxiety and depression. Maybe you have a dream that means the world to you and you haven’t been able to find a way to make it come true. Does any of this sound familiar?

I work with adults, many of whom are dealing with anxiety, depression, transitions, trauma or just trying to cope with the world we live in. I am meeting with people in person, virtually, or some combination of both. My office is in South Boulder and when clients prefer to meet in person, we can either meet in my office or on the back deck (weather permitting). I am licensed in Colorado but also have the PsyPact license, which means that I can work with people from many other states.

My clients realize that their experience(s) of trauma are impacting their lives in negative ways; Trauma shows up differently for different people, for example through struggles with their intimate partner or family, deep feelings of "being wounded", or persistent anxiety and nightmares. Sometimes it shows up in the body through unexplained medical conditions or physical pain. For most trauma survivors, it creates a deep disconnect from being able to live your best life.

I've helped numerous individuals over the years, including those with relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss & grief, parenting struggles, cultural/racial issues, health problems and substance use.
Hi there! I am a psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the field. My experience has allowed me to bring a deeper perspective to situations, and I know the value of giving that feedback to my clients. I utilize a variety of approaches like CBT, EMDR, Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic and Existential therapies. I had a thriving practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, but chose to live in beautiful and active Boulder instead. Because I just recently opened my practice to in-person clients here, I have openings!

Secrets keep us sick, anxious, and disconnected from ourselves.
You’re an outsider, different than the culture around you, pushed to the margins. And you’ve been keeping secrets. Dark, taboo secrets about money, death, sex, religion, female bodies, and politics. For yourself, for your family, for society. For a long time, it was easy enough to bury these secrets, to pretend it never happened, to pretend you didn’t know. But you can’t anymore. Lots of everyday and mundane things are calling these secrets to the surface; some you don’t even recognize as your own. You feel like you may crack apart. You’re paralyzed with anxiety, fiery with rage, sick with disgust, and perhaps just a bit mad.

We will examine how our language impacts our thoughts/feelings, learn skills to combat stress and anxiety, and increase our communication skills for healthier relationships.
You did everything you were supposed to do. You went to college, got the job, found an apartment but you still feel like crap. You've been on a million dates, but it never seems to work out. At this point, it feels like you're going through the motions. On paper, your life seems great. You're paid well, you have friends, and your Google Calendar is full with events. Your parents brag to their friends how wonderful you are, but you feel guilty for not measuring up. You're not happy and you don't know why.

My approach varies based on the client's needs, using insights from interpersonal and psychodynamic therapy, narrative and family systems therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based stress management. Know Thyself was the ancient prescription for a meaningful life, and I believe it still holds true today. To understand our needs, potentials, and limitations gives us the courage to confront our challenges and the wisdom to learn and grow from them. I offer a compassionate and down-to-earth approach to therapy, partnering with clients to discover unconscious patterns that interfere with satisfaction in work, health, relationships, and creativity. I believe that symptoms arise when vital parts of our personalities have been denied; thus depression, anxiety, addiction, and chronic illness may be voices of the deeper self trying to be heard.

The work I do with clients is rooted in the belief that connecting with all of the parts that make us who we are and forming meaningful relationships with our surrounding community (both human and non-human) can help us find solid ground in times of stress, trauma, and challenging life transitions. I specialize in helping children, teens and young adults develop the skills to find nervous system regulation, form healthy attachments, and build skills to manage anxiety and depression. I predominantly (and not exclusively) work with folks in the LGBTQIA2S+ community, believing that every body deserves a caring space to heal and restore

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, or difficulty in relationship to others? Do you find it difficult to stay present, worrying about the future or past? Did you grow up experiencing trauma, or have had recent traumatic experiences and are having difficulty processing the emotions and stress that accompany trauma? We all get stuck in ways of relating to ourselves, others, and the world. Therapy can offer a way to bring awareness to how we are moving through life, consider our patterns, and promote growth and wellbeing.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
