Are you struggling to make a decision? Have you lost touch with who you thought you were? Do you seem to find yourself in the same situation over and over? Maybe you're dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, or grief. You might just need someone to talk to. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to speak with you. I'm interested in working with any and all adults and teenagers (15+). I have a special interest in working with young adults, musicians and other artists, people who are feeling directionless, and those trying to reconcile their beliefs about the "big questions" that go along with the experience of being human.

I believe in providing a safe environment and building a strong and great relationship with all clients. Through my experience as a professional counselor, I have gained a strong understanding of anxiety, depression, PTSD, dissociation, and trauma related to mental health. Previously, I was working in a university mental health clinic, as well as for a non- profit organization that helps individuals relating to trauma and PTSD. Most of my experience has focused on working with adults ranging in age from 18-65, but I welcome all age ranges into counseling.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 10 years of clinical experience in mental health. Making the decision to look for a therapist is a courageous one and can come from a myriad of reasons. You may be feeling stuck, lost in the chaos of life, adjusting to a life transition or struggling with anxiety. Perhaps you’re experiencing difficulties in relationships, struggling to find connections or meaning in your life. Or maybe you just feel like you need help exploring yourself and your history to come to a more defined sense of self.

You're wondering where you go from here. The negative thoughts in your head are so loud. Feeling “never enough” you struggle to connect with others. Anxiety and stress feel like a regular part of your life and you don’t know how to break the cycle of negative thoughts and actions. Minimizing your experience, you think, “I don’t have it that bad,” but you can’t shake it off any longer. The more you push your feelings down, the more they bubble up in other ways. Feeling isolated, stretched too thin, and overwhelmed you’ve finally made it here to look for support. Simply wishing things are different is not enough.

These symptoms often manifest from family of origin (FOO) issues as co-dependency, addiction, anxiety, and difficulty with life transitions.
I specialize in working with individuals who utilize externals to numb their feelings (whether that be drugs, alcohol, relationships), and people who may have been taught to ignore their own wants and needs in order to fulfill their role of taking care of others. This disconnect from your own emotional experience and the inability to regulate has the power to isolate you from those around you, often leading to misunderstanding and conflict in relationships. My goal is to help you gain insight into your own internal experience in order to better understand yourself, and to be better understood by those around you.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
