After over 25 years working and living in rural and urban Alaska as a teacher, painter and counselor, I saw the need to offer counseling outside conventional settings. The Dome Arts house is a second home located in a quiet, historic neighborhood. It includes a playroom, working art studio, comfortable living room area, small kitchen and sunny, peaceful backyard with garden. I am dedicated to creating and maintaining an atmosphere which encourages reflection, healing and growth.

I like to work with families, including children of all ages. I also work with individual adults and occasional couples. I also like to work with military families. I am also trained in EMDR therapy and have even tried some of this therapy style with adolescents. I am also trained in perinatal mood disorders.

Many of us encounter struggles in our lives and react in ways that are not necessarily effective or in our best interest. In those stressful situations, it is not uncommon to have thoughts, harbor feelings or act in ways that damage relationships, work, or other areas of our lives. When people need to repair those damages or make personal changes, counseling can help. I provide counseling for individuals and families, youth, adults and couples with Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The cognitive component of therapy addresses the way thoughts can be automatic and self-defeating.

I provide a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) that combines standard "talk therapy" with Jungian-based tools and art/play therapy approaches that allow for greater exploration of the unconscious. With 25 years counseling experience using a variety of therapy techniques I have found this combination works far better than other approaches for getting good results. Child and family therapy is a valuable tool and times are challenging for families. I love my job! After over 24 years in the field, I'm retiring from full time practice and moving to Quest Counseling and Wellness to focus exclusively on Counseling for Parents. I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals committed to exploring their maladaptive behaviors and concerning emotional experiences. Psychodynamic therapy emphasizes the relationship between the therapist and client as the core of the healing process. Working in therapy with me is going beyond the symptoms and moving deeper to what fuels the anxiety, depression, anger, etc. We hope to arrive at a goal of better understanding you as a person and what fuels your thoughts, feelings, desires and hopes. I work with the client to develop a goal, while always keeping in mind the goal of long-term emotional growth and stability.

I am deeply committed to the transformative power of therapy as the cornerstone of my treatment approach. While I maintain a multifaceted interest in human welfare, including the impacts of abuse and neglect, family engagement, parent training, and trauma throughout the lifespan, therapy remains central to my practice. Catering to children, young adults, individuals, and families, I utilize an integrated, person-centered methodology, infused with trauma-informed and multi-cultural perspectives.

Clients often come to me when they are exhausted from their thoughts, emotions, urges or memories. These issues can take a toll on relationships and a person's sense of self and leave us feeling isolated and alone. I work with people of all ages who experience common and complex circumstances including: depression, anxiety, burnout, the effects of traumatic circumstances (flashbacks, rumination, dissociation, avoidance, etc.), anger management skill development, codependency in relationships and establishing boundaries, ADHD and other neurodiverse thinking and social skill development for youth.

In my psychotherapy practice with adolescents, men, women and families the focus is typically on issues such as behavioral concerns, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, ADHD and anger. I believe that everyone is entitled to be treated with respect and honesty and that therapy should start where the client is at. Additionally, each client has their own ways of gaining insight and implementing new patterns into their lives and will have their own pace at which they discover the strengths within themselves. I like to work with the client to discover what is most effective for them and go from there.

I have come to understand how challenges help us shape and strengthen the center of us. I studied everything I could get my hands on, anything that seemed to help people live life to the fullest: Western medicines of neuroscience and psychology; I studied in my mind and in my body; I lost my way and always found my path again.
