Are you overwhelmed, stressed out, and feel like no matter how hard you try it's just not enough? During these difficult times, we all have a longing to be heard, valued, and respected. Helping individuals and families find peace and joy again is my passion. My approach with families is fun and interactive to give them the tools to learn to talk with one another about daily issues without feeling like every conversation turns into a battle. I work with families, couples, and individuals who often have difficulty communicating their emotions and needs without conflict.

I am passionate about working with survivors of sexual trauma, religious and spiritual concerns, and foster care/ adoption systems.
Does it feel like all you are doing is doggy paddling in the ocean, trying to keep your head above water? It feels like relationships are anchoring you down, and life events are giant waves pushing you under. Reaching out for help can feel scary. I hope to help you learn to surf the waves, implement coping skills, and feel in control of your life. Through therapy, you can learn to process and embrace your past and look forward to your future. I hope you can learn about yourself and start loving and accepting all parts of you. I am committed to providing affirming care and honoring those who come from marginalized identities.

My decision to become a therapist is rooted in my lifelong desire to help children develop and strengthen their coping skills so they’re able to improve their relationships and mental health today, and so they’ll become healthy adults down the road. Seeing their creativity, insight, resilience, humor, curiosity, awe, and capacity for growth is a never-ending source of amazement for her. My goal is to help your child get to the heart of what’s keeping them from enjoying the life they want, and giving practical steps to move forward.

I prefer to work with adults and older adolescents struggling with addictions, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. I have a vast amount of experience working in the field of trauma. Due to my experience working in community mental health, I also work well with those with intense mental health and substance abuse treatment needs. Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
