I am also interested in spirituality, meditation, nonduality, Sanatana Dharma, contemplative science, astrology, Jungian studies, and welcome discourse in such topics.
I am a seasoned therapist with a solid background of training in counseling psychology and I keep a very enthusiastic learning edge on perspectives and developments in psychotherapy. I can always find a way to generate an earnest and stimulative approach to working with clients in therapy. I believe that persons seeking therapy hope to find someone who has a mature range of life experience, sophisticated knowledge of the therapeutic process, a tested repertoire of counseling skills and the ability to provide the anticipatory guidance that fosters self-determination and meaningful life changes. I am confident I have these attributes.

You've achieved incredible success, but beneath the surface, you feel unseen and unheard. The truth is, 75% of High Performers share a secret: moderate to severe trauma, including loss, poverty, or abuse. People see your wins, but not the struggle with the fear of failure, isolation, exhaustion, and the need to perform or else...who are you? Like you, I've had to work a lot on myself, alone. The unfortunate paradox is the more you know, the harder it is to find someone to truly help. I get that frustration. With my unique approach, you will feel empowered to cultivate healthy systems and make conscious choices towards healing.

I practice Non-dual therapy, also known as non-dual counseling or non-dual psychology, which is a form of therapy that focuses on helping individuals to recognize and understand the true nature of their being and to cultivate a sense of inner peace and well-being. Non-dual therapy typically involves exploring and questioning the individual's thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions about other people and situations and helping them to develop a deeper understanding of their true nature and the interconnectedness of all things. This can involve meditation, mindfulness, self-inquiry, and more traditional forms of psychotherapy.

Change, worry, and upsets are a given. But so is the ability to adjust, heal, create, plan and live more fully. Challenging life experiences can cause us to feel stuck: grief, trauma, unending decision-making, constant fear or worry. We suffer when we are not flowing in heart, head and body. When we carry too much emotional pain, we need to move from isolation to connectedness, gain insight, and find our way.

We have all been in the midst of deep personal and collective transformation over the past years. There is a greater awareness among us all about what is not working both personally and collectively. I am here as a guide to walk with you through this portal of change. I am a trauma-informed therapist and my approach to therapy acknowledges the impact that stressful experiences can have on our mind, body, and spirit. I can support you in releasing any deeply embedded patterns that limit your ability to feel connected and show up fully in the world.

Traditional psychotherapy works toward congruence in a persons thinking, emotions, actions, and life choices. Body-oriented therapy understands that the body is also profoundly affected by our life experiences. Identifying and releasing attitudes and old images held in our physical structure adds an important component to therapy. This promotes lasting change, allowing for free flow of life energy from within us so we can more fully realize our life, our joy. I am also founder of the Seattle School of Body-Psychotherapy, and enterprise of Body-Psychotherapy of Seattle.

You may be struggling to see and believe in the goodness of yourself and others. You desire a change in these relationships. I support my clients in finding a compassionate and just relationship with themselves and the world around them by exploring implicit and explicit material in their historical and current narratives. I engage and help clients in an emotionally-focused and somatically-present space. We take our biggest steps to healing when we feel cared for, loved, and heard.

I have learned almost everything of importance about mental health from working with my patients. Though I consider that I had excellent training, as with many things in life, nothing prepared me for the intensity of my patients' life-stories. It was a trial by immersion, but as with such journeys, it was also one of discovery. Patients set before me stories of grief, longing, despair, addiction, obsession, but also of surprise, joy, and abundance. At times, they were overtaken by the force of events swirling around them, losing their bearings and sense of agency.

The decision to start therapy takes courage. It takes a willingness to walk toward your suffering and reclaim the parts of yourself that have been diminished, shamed, and cast aside. I believe that our suffering has meaning and can be the key to deep transformation and growth. If you are called to walk through the doorway of your struggles and find what gifts and insights are waiting on the other side, I can help you on that journey. Our work will go beyond symptom management, into the deep inner territory of self-knowledge and self-actualization.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
