You have difficulty controlling your thoughts, behaviors, or your sex life. You find yourself behaving in ways that you don’t understand or have caused issues in your life. You have tried to figure this out on your own, and it isn’t working. You want to understand yourself better, be a better version of yourself, and you are needing change. During my professional career, I have helped many clients with issues in these areas. Life is complex, and even the most successful and intelligent people need help at times.

Life can be hard-- really hard. Sometimes, we are just trying to survive and we end up in a place we don’t want to be: depression, anger, anxiety, loneliness, hopelessness. Asking for help is an act of strength and courage. I have a passion for helping others find their way toward who they want to be. I can help you become more proactive, not just reacting to the circumstances of life. Understanding the past. Managing the present. Building for the future. It’s never too late for change! Life can be better if you are willing to do the work. Are you ready to begin?

I have dedicated my professional career to treating individuals, couples and families through a systemic lens. That is, I do not view the client as having pathology within the self. Rather, I view the client within context whereby interactional and relational patterns are learned. I specialize in relational therapy, where I assist clients in developing emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. I have 16 years of experience working with diverse populations including: chemical dependency, residential and acute psychiatry, marital and relationship issues, parent-child issues.

Congratulations on being ready and willing to make changes in your life! Have you been struggling to cope with the challenges that life sometimes brings? Has this struggle caused you to feel sad, worried, or unhealthy? This is the first step towards healing and growing. Therapy is a great way to understand why we do what we do and how to stop some of the negative patterns our brain has set based on our past experiences.

LATE evening appointments available! Start times ranging from 6 AM to 8 PM depending on the day for kids or the busy working adult. Continually feeling overwhelmed is a sign that your current life is NOT sustainable and that change is desperately needed. You’re exhausted. You thought things would get better with time but they haven’t…. and to be truthful, they probably won’t unless change is consciously made. Trapped emotions can keep you tied to patterns that aren’t fueling the version of you that you want to be. That you choose to be.

I feel fortunate to work in this profession and am honored by the trust that develops between my patients and me. Each of us often encounters difficulty along this life's journey and need to find someone to help sort out, understand and develop new tools to make our way. Sometimes therapy is a luxury and sometimes a necessity. I can help you meet the challenge when it is a necessity and help you grow to your highest and best potential when it is a luxury.

I don't have a specific client that is "ideal" as every client has their own unique history and backstory. I definitely look forward to meeting with people who are interested in self-growth but I also enjoy helping people get to the point to where the may be ready to work on their self-growth. If you are reading this, you would probably be the ideal client since you have taken the first step in just having that thought in your head about maybe it is time to give yourself the love you give to others and focusing on yourself.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
