I also have extensive experience working with men's issues, including addressing concerns related to masculinity and gender roles, issues of identity, and learning to better experience and express a full range of emotions in a healthy way; for many men, this also means redefining their relationship with anger.
I provide psychotherapy for individual adults and adolescents, offering therapeutic support and interventions which are tailored to the unique needs and personalities of those whom I am fortunate to serve. Working from a disciplined eclectic perspective, I collaborate with my patients to discover new and more helpful ways to cope with life's challenges and work towards their goals and aspirations. Whether the work is short- or long-term in nature, my approach is grounded in the belief that every person deserves and benefits most from a course of treatment which is individually tailored to their specific strengths and challenges.

My particular area of interest is relationship challenges, and I work with both individuals and couples using an approach informed by attachment theory and emotionally focused therapy.
I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford and private practice psychiatrist and therapist. The challenges you are facing now may feel overwhelming, and you may feel stuck in patterns that are no longer serving you. We will work together to understand what is happening in your life right now, while exploring the historical patterns, beliefs, and experiences that may be contributing to your current experience. My approach is to be compassionate, inquisitive, and candid. I believe our partnership is foundational to change.

I empathize with those who experience unique challenges adjusting to living in the US or face mental health and relationship issues.
Being an immigrant, a child of an immigrant, a world traveler or an international student has left you feeling disconnected and like you don't belong. You feel alone even though you are among people, busy with school, work and life. You are not alone. Many of us, who uprooted ourselves by choice of our own or someone else, experience these feelings. These feelings are normal. You're human. The isolation and lack of belonging are exhausting and you long to feel better about your life and future.

I believe that, regardless of the approach used, patients are best helped within the context of a trusting relationship.
I was born and raised in San Francisco and have extensive experience working with diverse children, teens, and adults throughout the Bay Area. I believe that therapy should be collaborative, and I will work with you to uncover what led you to reach out, and what works best for you in therapy. Stylistically, I believe in direct and transparent communication, and in making as much space for laughter as for other challenging emotions that can come up in therapy. I aim to create a supportive environment in which you feel understood and experience symptom relief and meaningful, long-lasting change.

You have the right to exist in the world just as you are. If you're here, something within you may be initiating growth. Maybe you're tired of feeling 'stuck', maybe there are questions you have yet to voice or maybe there is a dissatisfaction with your life or your relationships, most importantly the relationship you have with yourself.

I also take a great interest in assisting clients with breaking down the nature of interpersonal communication, it's impacts on us, and how we see ourselves in relationship.
The decision to start therapy can be intensely personal when the sum of your experiences messages to you that nothing can, or will change. Therapy isn't just a space where we develop insight into how we got to where we are, but a space that we take to consider who we want to move forward into becoming. You make sense in context, and it's in that context that we'll work together to support you in overcoming barriers to becoming the version of yourself you strive to be.

I approach therapy with an authentic and genuine presence which may include humor and assertive observation/reflection. Among the top factors determining “success” in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I strive to foster a safe, trusting space to collaboratively explore your internal and external worlds, identify patterns that no longer serve you, and enact coping strategies to create lasting, positive change. My professional experience includes work in residential and outpatient settings with adults and youth.

Modern life can feel like a paradox. Surrounded by technology meant to bring connection, ease, and order to our lives, you may instead feel isolated, anxious, and overwhelmed. Bombarded by reminders about the value of purpose, meaning, and contentment, you may find yourself feeling disoriented, distracted, and insufficient. You are far from alone. There is a path toward feeling whole. And I encourage you to nourish the seed of hope that brought you to search for a therapist.

Hi! I want to start by saying that reaching out for additional support is one of the bravest and most rewarding things you can do for yourself. I work hard to create a safe and comfortable place for my clients to learn and grow. Therapy can seem a bit mysterious, and choosing to open up to someone new can feel intimidating, but my goal is to help you make meaningful change in your life. I love what I do and feel grateful that I am able to provide you with science-backed tools, hope and curiosity as we explore patterns together and help guide you towards relief, ease and happiness.

I mostly treat couples who are navigating parenting and communication. But I work with individual clients too, Bay area residents who have multiple responsibilities and many demands placed on them daily. I help clients ease their doubt in social situations, calm down the inner critic. In my sessions we explore new ways to connect in many different circumstances. If you have fallen into negative thinking patterns, this constant worry may wear you down. I am there to be your collaborator, to find the best solution for you.

One of the goals of therapy is to make you more aware of your feelings, thoughts, and actions, which influence the way you live your life. Having more understanding and insight about why you do what you do will give you more choices. Sometimes we feel like we repeat patterns or are stuck in a situation and don’t know how to do something different. I can help you work through difficult times you are encountering in the present and also help to heal past traumas. Therapy can help you act with intention and in support of your personal goals.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
