Are you a new mom feeling stressed, anxious or disconnected from yourself? I see you and am here to tell you that peace, joy and confidence in this new role & season are possible! I’m Johanna, a Latina millennial mom and I use a perinatal mental health & trauma-informed approach to help women in the early seasons of motherhood manage their stress, explore the roots of unhelpful patterns & identify skills for healthier rhythms in this transition. With compassion and non-judgement, I can help you explore what health and wellness would look like for you (and your little ones!) during this season. Take a deep breathe, you got this!

We'll dive deep into beliefs, emotions, somatic experiences, memories, spirituality, hopes, and more to understand the root causes of suffering.
My approach as a relational and somatic therapist is to create a collaborative space to explore your relationship with yourself, others, and the world. We will unearth unconscious beliefs and patterns to help you live a more connected and fulfilling life. Our work together will, hopefully, help you relieve suffering, foster growth, and develop insight in all dimensions of your life.

In graduate school much of my research and clinical work was focused on interpersonal trauma, men and healthy, authentic masculinity, LGBT identity and relationships, and mindfulness and spirituality.
Psychotherapist James Finley says, “The tyranny of suffering lasts only as long as it takes for compassion to show up on the scene.” Many who find themselves reading this may experience themselves as subject to the ‘tyranny of suffering’ in some way and may be searching for a compassionate presence in which they can feel safe, be deeply seen, attentively listened to, and profoundly accepted. My name is Jacob Munhoz and I invite you to consider allowing me to be that compassionate presence for you. ***Out of deep respect for the confidential nature of this work, I do not work directly with insurance providers.***

Sometimes who we think we are "supposed" to be and who we are in our truth don't always line up causing anxiety, depression, conflict in relationships and career. Recognizing and allowing the true self to emerge is empowering and challenging. I work collaboratively with you to discover this truth and along the way build some skills and strategies to support us along the journey - uncovering your strengths, your desires and your self. We will chat, move, breathe, write maybe even dance. The body is the anchor and sometimes we forget how wise and rich it is. We will see if we can rediscover this truth. I think we can.

Hi, my name is Vi! I hold different identities as a woman of color, an immigrant from Việt Nam, and a former international student. Through my healing journey, I instantly learned clinicians with similar identities & cultural backgrounds who could fully facilitate a space of growth in my identity as an Asian immigrant woman were lacking. This disheartening experience fueled my passion to provide a space to highlight and honor immigrant and API experiences through my work. I welcome all clients, particularly young professionals, immigrants, API-identified, as well as folks with identities marked by marginalization and oppression.

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom" -Anaïs Nin. There are times when we feel lost, confused, even fearful. Perhaps we find ourselves at a crossroads, undergoing life changing experiences. We want to deepen our relationship to all aspects of our lives, and may feel we know where we would like to be, but cannot find a foothold, or begin the journey alone. If any of these relate to your life situation, you are probably ready to enter into the therapeutic process.

Whether you’re a creative woman struggling with anxiety and/or depression and longing to experience your fullest creative and erotic expression, or whether you’re a couple looking to overcome relational trauma and deepen your connection and intimacy, most people hit a wall when it comes to talking endlessly about their same old struggles.

I take a holistic, somatic and transpersonal/spiritual approach to therapy, looking deeply into the interplay between mind, body and spirit and working at the root level of our physical experience: the nervous system. I work collaboratively with clients to explore socio-cultural considerations, how we fit or don't fit in that context and our opportunities for growth. We'll sort through to find and examine unconscious patterns and get creative to generate alternatives that put you more in line with your goals and life purpose. If you don't know what those are, we'll figure that out too.

Clients typically reach out to me when some area of their life is not working well. This could be a new instance of something not working well, or it’s possible that something hasn’t been working well for a very long time. It could be a behavior, a relationship, a job, an attitude, a way of thinking or feeling, or it could be that the ways you used to cope are no longer working or serving you anymore. It’s a painful place to be when the old way doesn’t work anymore but you don’t yet know a new way. Therapy can be a powerful place to learn new tools for engaging in life and relationships that serve you and those around you better.

My goal as a therapist is to serve as a compassionate witness, creating a safe space for clients to explore their whole selves - body, mind, and spirit. Together, we can map the territory of your lived experience and find the road that leads to a place of knowing, confidence, and satisfaction. I welcome the whole you. The places of lightness and the places of darkness. I welcome your multitude of backgrounds and experiences. I welcome the parts that follow the rules, as well as the rebel parts that march to a different beat. Come just as you are - to discover who you can become.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that every day may not be our best. We want every day to be our best, but if we are honest with ourselves, most days are not. Though there is much pain in this world, I am optimistic in your healing through therapy. I want to help you be your authentic, best self through creating new habits that will set you up for success. I am passionate about leading my clients to face what is going on internally rather than just externally, and to live more in the present.

I am a strength-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist—one who believes we each have the inner resources we need to be successful and happy in our lives. During our life journeys, many of us may need assistance with finding and/or highlighting our inner strengths so we can breakthrough our struggles, whether they be past traumas, family patterns/dynamics, relationship/attachment issues or a simple and current need for change. My hope is to help my clients build on their strengths, pinpoint their patterns, rewrite their stories, and find their way back to the positive aspects of life they deserve to experience.

I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.

Starting therapy and finding the right fit can be a daunting task. I view the therapeutic relationship as something that is co-created over time and as the primary tool for healing. I have experience working with ages 3-50+ providing specific insights and tools relevant for the progressive stages of life and the many difficulties that can come up along the way. Focusing on the here and now, we work to increase self awareness, compassion, insight and care while simultaneously holding the larger context within which we meet, including ways that race, gender, class and culture impact our experiences and identities.

We all experience life's challenges, feel alone, stuck and unsure what to do sometimes. Therapy can be deeply healing, when we can open up and take the first step towards mental well-being and self-love. If this is you, you're in the right place.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
