Sharing and understanding parts of ourselves or our internal struggles can be scary, vulnerable and transformative. As humans our lives shift frequently, and having support through some of those life adjustments can be invaluable to finding one's purpose or meaning. In the sacredness of the therapeutic relationship, I hope to offer a safe environment to explore your personal values, culture and discover how to be your most authentic self. I try to use skills grounded in research and evidence-based practices to help people cultivate the self-compassion, self-awareness and courage needed to do this work.

My therapy style is mainly using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Culturally sensitive approaches to provide space for change in the client. I have also trained in trauma-informed care and more interpersonal approaches such as Gestalt and Psychodynamic. I love seeing the change in the client. Once change happens, it is like a whirlwind. That drives me to continue to do this work. I am honest and direct, I like for my clients to feel confident enough to challenge me if necessary. Goal setting is a collaborative approach between me and the client. We determine the goal and how to approach said goal.

As a cancer survivor myself, I know first hand how scary the "C" word is. As a result of cancer treatments, often times people develop mild to severe forms of depression, anxiety, "scanxiety," and post-traumatic stress disorder. Many people experience symptoms during treatment while others are symptomatic only after they are in full remission. My practice treats fellow warriors and their families that are navigating the cancer process, survivors trying to figure out their “new normal”, individuals in remission for years but are still processing the events that once happened, and those currently experiencing metastasized cancers.

Through my clinical/personal experience, I've learned how life transitions, intricate relationships, and unresolved trauma can trigger a range of internal and external reactions that stray from our core values. I firmly believe that when our nervous system responds to traumatic events, the resulting adaptive energy sometimes remains within the body, creating dysfunctional patterns that perpetuate emotional, somatic, and psychological distress, ultimately leaving us feeling stuck and isolated. We can work together to reestablish your emotional and physical well-being, laying the foundation for healthy relationships.

Welcome to your journey of growth. As a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience, I believe every individual has the ability to heal, grow, and live a fulfilling life. My background as a Chinese Malaysian who has lived in the U.S. for over a decade has given me a unique perspective on the challenges that immigrants and people of color face. With an integrative, evidence-based approach, I help clients understand what causes them to feel stuck, and what is needed to get unstuck, while providing the expertise and support to develop strategies that would work for them.

I utilize an eclectic and integrative approach based on the treatment needs of my clients, following best practices and evidenced-based treatment interventions. I feel one of the most important aspects of therapy is to help clients understand the context in which they are experiencing symptoms.

In providing the initial assessment and therapy, my goals are to work collaboratively with the individual in order to develop a treatment plan that is uniquely suited to the individual and their goals. Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
