You want a therapist who is more than just a good listener. Therapy should be a supportive but challenging and dynamic space that opens up new ways of relating to the world. I aim to build a relationship based on trust and honesty to help you develop new skills and uncover opportunities for agency and growth. Clients appreciate the frankness, humor, and authenticity I bring to the therapy space. I see value in deep exploration, but will balance it with attention to opportunities for action you can take now in your daily life. I see clients not as people who are "sick", but rather "stuck." I want to help you get unstuck.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client is the most important element of therapy.
As a relational therapist, I work with individuals, couples, and families as they navigate anxiety, depression, trust and communication, and life cycle transitions. I enjoy working with clients of all cultural backgrounds, sexualities and non-traditional relationships, as they navigate different phases of life. I hope to provide a communicative, collaborative space in which we can make meaning of the client's lived experiences to foster healing and growth on an interpersonal and intrapersonal level. As a queer, Asian-American woman of color, I hold space for the multiple identities in which clients identify.

Oftentimes, people come to therapy because they feel stuck in patterns that they can't shake, despite their best efforts--this may be creating symptoms of anxiety, depression, or relationship issues. I provide a safe, focused environment that allows my clients to explore themselves, their relationships, and their experiences in the world. I also offer special sensitivity to how cultural, racial, and societal issues affect an individual's life. The process is aimed at allowing people to clarify their own goals and move toward them, and to discover new ways of approaching life's challenges while becoming more aware of their personal values and needs.

I enjoy working closely with my clients to develop a strong therapeutic relationship and a tailored treatment plan to help them overcome painful life experiences.
We can all use a little help sometimes. Counseling can provide us with a space to explore our authentic selves and try out new strategies for coping with life's challenges, free from judgment. The individuals and families I support are typically seeking relief from feelings of sadness, anxiety or worry, shame, hopelessness, anger, or confusion. These feelings are often associated with divorce or separation, grief and loss, family issues, or childhood trauma. The feelings and circumstances can feel all consuming and difficult to manage, but you don't need to manage them alone.

Within the context of such relationships, meaningful growth, healing, and change can happen. Specialty areas include anxiety or sadness surrounding life transitions, romantic relationship concerns, and family conflict.
It is common for people to feel stuck in their lives and experience hardship. Clients often have a hunch that they are avoiding painful feelings, which leads to challenges in relationships and day-to-day coping. While reaching out for help can be daunting, clients often describe the therapy process to be an empowering way to gain direction in their lives and experience significant relief. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville. I provide warm, yet active therapy, so clients can get the most out of the therapy experience and live a better life.

I value creating a collaborative relationship that fosters trust and safety by infusing warmth, curiosity, humor, and authenticity into how I relate to others. As I learn more about your experiences, we will work together to explore your concerns and identify techniques to better manage them. I listen for patterns to help you draw connections between current and past life events and how they are impacting you in the present. I hope to create a space for you to bravely reflect on changes you want to make in your life that will lead to a more fulfilling present and future.

Grounded in humanistic and feminist lenses, I support clients to process emotions, identify relationship patterns, and find one's agency within familial and sociopolitical systems.
It takes great courage to live out our authentic selves, find wisdom underneath our emotions, and repair and transform relationships that are close to heart. I admire your strength and humanity. As a counseling psychologist, researcher, and professor, I received doctoral and postdoctoral training in individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy. As an immigrant, I witness life and culture in its nuances and complexities. I believe (and research shows) that, built upon a safe and trusting relationship, therapy can effectively support people to find clarity, authenticity, and resolution through the richness of our life journeys.

I work long-term with folks, which allows us to build a strong relationship of trust and intimacy.
Being a therapist is a privilege and an honor. I care deeply about your reality and experience of the world. I have a Master's degree in Counseling, focusing on psychodynamic and feminist theory. My psychodynamic training means I have experience listening in a specific way that invites us, together, to discover and make meaning out of the experiences in life. I believe that gaining insight means learning to be open to learning about ourselves curiously and compassionately. All parts of you, including the ones deemed shameful or bad, are accepted into this space.

Have you ever felt stuck while in a relationship or confused about who you are or where you want to be in your life? Do parts of you feel lost and insecure while other parts of you are so ready to change and give up old habits? These different parts of us may feel pressure from family, friends, work, school, and society to fit a mold of who we are supposed to be as a person. We may even put the most pressure on ourselves to be in control, strive for perfection, or please others. Yet, deep down we may feel empty, out of control, anxious, or inauthentic. You are not alone.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
