I am a licensed psychotherapist who works predominately with teens and adults on issues like anxiety, overwhelm/stress, grief and emotional regulation. I also work with couples and am Gottman Level 1 certified. In sessions with me, you can expect a warm, supportive, and calming space for us to connect so that you feel seen and heard. I use a holistic and relational approach that encourages you to be an active participant in your own growth and healing. We often face fear, self-doubt, shame, and trauma; although our strength is unmatched, even the toughest people need support and care. I am passionate about supporting and working with women seeking to overcome loneliness, depression, anxiety, overthinking, and low self-esteem. My experience has included working with individuals through life transitions, personal growth, parenting, family, and relational concerns.

I have been in private practice for over 20 years and have treated thousands of clients including individuals, families, children and adults. People often come in seeking relief from a range of struggles including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and family conflicts. Through my work with many families I began to also address issues of parenting and family dynamics as well as children and adolescents facing a variety of disorders, self-esteem issues, and acting out behaviors. Over the span of my career I have also treated substance abuse, bipolar, psychotic and personality disorders.

Joie is a North Side resident, and a proud member of the Queer, Neurodiverse, and Chronically Ill/ Disabled communities. They believe in nurturing and cherishing these identities (as well as all others!), and challenging social norms with the radical act of being yourself. Joie is a former social emotional and sexual health educator, and has worked with young people in various capacities for over 10 years. They’ve worked both in the schools and via Telehealth to provide therapy to children, adolescents, and emerging adults, focusing primarily on acute and complex trauma, neurodivergence, and gender/sexuality identity development.

I love working with children, the inner child in every adult and couples experiencing stress from parenting. I particularly specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, developmental delays, ADHD, behavior issues, Autism Spectrum and emotional problems related to other medical issues. I take a warm, collaborative and judgement-free approach. I’ll include you in your treatment planning because I think you’ll be more invested in a plan if you had a part in creating it.

We are constantly impacted by our environment from family, friends, communities, and institutions and we are impacted with the relationships we have with each of these systems. We can internalize these interactions which makes it difficult to cope. I utilize a systems theory approach that highlights strengths-based, solution-focused, and trauma-informed practices. I lean into a decolonized and relational approach to the work we do together. Missy is passionate about psychotherapy with children, adolescents, families, as well as adults. In working with adults, she helps them create meaning in their lives. With an eye toward life transitions and contextual factors, Missy empowers clients to face their current challenges with true agency. In working with children, I provide evidenced based skills in addressing mood, adjustment, anxiety disorders, and learning disabilities. This practice was birthed during the Pandemic with the intentions of supporting individuals through a globally traumatic time, and I have since expanded my trauma skill set and knowledge to support environmental and complex trauma. I identify as a Heterosexual, Cisgender, African-American female. I have a fondness for culture, and I've expanded my team with a bilingual, Spanish speaking therapist Felipa Roman. We will specialize in cultural trauma for marginalized communities, and the mental health challenges therein.
