It is not uncommon for people to talk and think their way 'better'. They have made sense of their problems and wish to 'just move on'. However, they can't seem to rid themselves of the emotional turmoil and physical pain that remains. My clients say to me, 'I just want to move on but my anxiety, depression, trauma, bad habits, pain, guilt, shame, family members...just won't let me'.

Whether you're seeking to do identity work, heal from past trauma/intergenerational trauma, striving to create work/life balance or adapt to life's changes.
Licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin! I help clients find balance and healing in this thing called LIFE. Life shouldn't feel as flat as a cold cup of coffee or tea. If you find yourself going through the motions of the day without a real sense of connection to yourself or those around you, or if you constantly feel overwhelmed, undersupported, burnt out, and sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, I get it! And you don't have to keep living that way! Those who benefit from therapy with me are those seeking to make an active change in their lives with a therapist who understands what it's like to navigate through this complex world.

I utilize solution focused therapy as well as EMDR to treat anxiety, depression, past or present relationship issues, trauma and a variety of other issues.
My clients often have an idea of what they want in life, but find they are stuck in patterns that stop them from pursuing their dreams. Our collaborative work focuses on building a life that honors the true, authentic self. The goals of treatment often involve identifying underlying beliefs and working to heal beliefs that are limiting. The process of healing almost always involves intentional shifts in relationships; relationships with oneself, mental health, and loved ones. I primarily see LGBTQ+ clients (and allies), which means supporting clients to develop healthy authenticity in a society that may not be nurturing or safe.

My goal for therapy is to provide women with a safe and confidential space to talk about hard things, reduce stress, heal from trauma, and discover inner strength.
The stress of being a woman in today’s society is significantly overlooked. We’re expected to excel in school, have full-time careers, raise a family, keep the house clean and the pantry stocked, make homecooked meals, keep up with society’s ever-changing standard of “beauty,” exercise and eat healthy, maintain a close group of friends, and have strong relationships with our partners. We do all this while battling intrusive thoughts of perfectionism, low-self worth, poor body image, and never-ending guilt. Even when we feel like we’re drowning and there’s nothing left of us to give, we continue to put other's first.

My specialties include life adjustments, teen pregnancy, Trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, depression and anxiety.
Life is full of surprises. Unexpected situations occur that impact the ways in which we cope with the world and our circumstances. Handling these issues over and over can leave us feeling exhausted, frustrated, out-of-control and saddened. When things just don’t feel right, it is time to reach out and ask for help. You don’t have to face your challenges alone. I’m a big fan of helping you find your voice and live the life you love. I want to help you find your power and purpose so you can navigate life like a boss!

I typically use a holistic, person-centered and trauma-informed approach that includes talk therapy, somatic, and energy healing/psychology.
I believe that transformative healing can happen when someone feels seen and heard, especially in their own language within a safe space. I am a Deaf psychotherapist and use ASL. I believe that we are multi-dimensional human beings and that we are also a lot like nature, therefore I bring more than just talk therapy in sessions utilizing the mind, body, spirit, and energy. I welcome all parts of you that are willing to show up and not here to tell you what I think, what you should do nor fix you. I will be honored in providing you space and cheer you alongside every step of your journey until you come to the feeling of home.

Finding a therapist can be hard. Finding a therapist you feel that ‘click’ with can be even harder. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to finding someone you trust enough to help you take that initial leap of faith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have almost 20 years of experience in this profession. My focus is adults 18+ with depression, anxiety disorders and mood disorders. I also have specialties in trauma and transgender healthcare. I am experienced in assessing readiness for gender affirming surgeries (using the most recent WPATH criteria) and writing letters of readiness for those meeting criteria.

Parenting is difficult as is, but throw in trauma, mental health, and/or chronic illness, and it can feel like we're always treading water with no end in sight. As a chronic illness mama myself, I know how hard it can be to balance caring for our health & our kids! For over 10 years, I have been working with children, teens, & adults. I love working with parents & kids to assist them in meeting whatever goals they have from reprocessing trauma, building self esteem, or managing life transitions. Life can be hard, & I love helping others to recognize all the things worth celebrating in it especially themselves!

Have you experienced relationships that have left you feeling traumatized, wounded, or misunderstood? Have these relationships influenced how you show up for yourself, for others, and in the world? My ideal client has been influenced by relational trauma that has them questioning if they really "know" themselves, making it complicated in how they live purposefully and authentically, and how they show up in their relationships and friendships. These clients are looking to rediscover their authenticity and Inner Child, heal through relational trauma, feel connected to themselves/their loved ones, and live purposefully.

Do you compare yourself to other moms at social events and feel as though they have it all together and you do not? Maybe your ‘mom guilt’ runs your life to a point where you feel like you will never be enough for your family? All that self-judgment and social comparison leads to racing thoughts, lack of sleep, excessive worry and panic. Maybe you tried medication, only to find that you feel worse. Yet each day you push forward and find yourself on Pinterest trying to do things better than the next mom. How are you supposed to feel happy, content and confident when you spend your time trying to be someone else?

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
