I am dedicated to supporting young adults and adults grappling with various challenges, including pain management, headaches, sleep disturbances, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Life can get or feel messy sometimes, especially when we encounter experiences that leave us feeling bewildered, overwhelmed, or as if we're merely surviving rather than thriving. It's during these moments that the guidance of a skilled psychological professional can become invaluable. My practice offers a place where individuals are invited sit and engage in one-on-one conversations, providing time to be fully heard, explore their experiences in depth, and gain some insights.

Does being in love mean being in pain? Are you and your significant other having a hard time communicating or getting your needs met? Are you confused, anxious, sad or angry? Are you feeling less motivated? Having difficulty concentrating or sleeping? Do you feel distracted and find it hard to follow through? Are you questioning your goals or feel stuck? Are you questioning your family of origin and feel you have issues from the past that are unresolved? Are you grieving the loss of someone? Do you worry about yourself or your significant other and their bad habits? Are you a survivor?

I also have experience working with people diagnosed with serious mental and physical illness.
I believe that success in psychotherapy ultimately depends on developing a genuine dialogue between you as a person, and me as your therapist. The gentle art of change also means discussing the context of your life-- where you are at now-- and how you got there (including how you developed and maintain the values you live by). Your values provide the "richness" to living. Most of all, the process of psychotherapy means understanding what you've already tried, whether it has worked (or not worked) -- and yes-- what gets in the way of you living a better life.

You’re at your limit. No, you’re PAST your limit. You’re running on empty. You feel like you’re totally just breaking. You don't really have time for therapy, but things just aren't getting better. Maybe no one seems to understand how you feel. Things are really REALLY freaking hard right now. But they don’t have to stay that way any longer. Is therapy hard? YUP, for sure. But not as hard as continuing to live with the way things are now. You’re been suffering for too long. You deserve to heal and be well. You deserve to leave this behind you and enjoy your life. You deserve to feel like YOU.

In Letters to a Young Poet, Rainer Maria Rilke wrote, “For one human being to love another is perhaps the most difficult task of all, the epitome, the ultimate test. It is that striving for which all other striving is merely preparation.” His writing speaks to the immense psychological importance of our closest relationships. Partnering with another can be a wellspring of immense joy, and just as easily, can induce some of our greatest heartaches and challenges. I understand that couples need more than a good listener to help them navigate their way to healing. They need someone who can guide them toward reconnection and growth.

Successful therapy begins with a genuine dialogue between you as a person and me as your therapist. The gentle art of change means discussing the context of your life where you are at now and how you got there (including how you developed and maintain the values you live by). Your values provide the "richness" to living. Most of all, psychotherapy means understanding what you've already tried, what has worked and yes- what gets in the way of you living a better life.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
