Sometimes you may become overwhelmed due to changes in routine or major events such as a new school, grades, finances, becoming a new parent, losing a loved one, divorce, or conflict in relationships. These life events may lead to anxiety, low self esteem, lack of motivation, and loss of direction. These struggles appear in different ways for each person and lasts for varying amounts of time. However, we can not always recover on our own due to depression, anxiety, past trauma, or other underlying influence. I am a therapist (LPC), here to help you on your journey to healing and becoming your best self.

I believe that the foundation of life starts with our family relationships. From the time we are young, our interactions with others create our beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These early childhood experiences help develop our personality and outlook on life. As we grow, it is important for us to keep in mind where we come from, who we are, and what we want in our future.

Making a commitment to therapy can definitely be a heavy ask but I’d be honored if you took a chance with me and allowed me to take that journey with you. I would love to support you in the way that my friends and family members have told me that I’ve supported them during periods of transition, relationship qualms, or crisis. Because of them, I believed in myself and took the long hard journey to gain the credentials to assist others in a similar way. I am committed to seeing you reach the win you imagine – let’s reach that finish line together!

I consider therapy a gift where you are able to detox from family pain and drama, remove the obstacles to your own growth and happiness -- and live the life you were meant to live. In our work together you will begin to know your self. Deep within each of us is the longing for happiness. Happiness does not depend on outer circumstances or how other people behave, it’s created with our innermost feelings and sense of well-being. My practice offers individual, couples and family sessions for all ages, with night and weekend appointments available. My office is located on the first floor of the beautiful Park Shelton building.

You're a helping or creative professional who needs help. You're pretty high functioning and your symptoms aren’t constant but they can be intense. You're scared that you're just fooling everyone since they have no idea how hard it's been for you. This has been going on for so long, it’s hard to even remember a time before it. You know one thing for sure though: you want to feel better. You’re ready to let go of the anxiety. You’re ready to have better ways to cope and react to your triggers. But most of all, you’re ready to actually move on and live a happy life.

My counseling philosophy is difficult doesn't mean impossible. I believe counseling involves helping you move from your current state towards what you are capable of becoming. This can be accomplished through a counseling relationship that (1) is genuine and real (2) enables you to experience acceptance and care, and (3) helps you to feel understood.

My patients often feel like they've tried everything and still haven’t found relief. That takes a toll. My specialty as a health psychologist focuses on chronic pain management, helping people manage the severity of their pain along with the frustration, sadness, exhaustion, and grief that come along with chronic pain. When it comes to managing pain, having a therapist who specializes in pain matters. I find fulfillment in helping patients like you achieve better quality of life, achieve lasting health improvements, and reach personal goals that otherwise couldn't be met.

We all need emotional support in our lives. I respect the fact that it takes a level of bravery to step outside one's comfort zone to seek help in times of trouble. Getting therapy does not mean that you are "crazy". Instead, therapy can be empowering, and exercises our emotional potential. I provide an objective perspective and empathy that you may not typically receive from friends or family. I am honored to work with those who are attempting to seek help in bettering their lives.

Looking for therapy, or clinical supervision for LLPCs in Michigan? I got you covered. I believe building rapport with my clients is the most important part of therapy as well as supervision, and that can lead to long term success. I know you may be feeling nervous and not sure what to do, but I am here to help. I am eclectic and authentic in my approach and I believe that feels more like you are talking to a "normal person" not a robot or a clinician. This leads to a great therapeutic relationship in which we can work together to make life better!

Mind over matter. I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I think the main reason we develop mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors that we have picked up along the way. Which means that I think you can unlearn the faulty behaviors and replace them with healthy ones. I believe that even though we can't start over we can start from where we are and change our circumstances.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
