Do you find yourself emotionally stuck, no matter what you do? You may be fed up with dealing with the impact of trauma, feeling exhausted from managing anxiety, or stuck under the weight of depression. You might not even remember a time when things didn't feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you're ready for some relief. You're ready to be in control of your life. You're ready to be free from the burden you've been carrying. Most of all, you're ready to move forward with the plans you've always had for your life.

What? Me . .traumatized? Surely it's not as bad as. . someone else and Their experience. Trauma comes in many forms and disguises. The back part of the brain subconsciously feels we are in a battle or there's a bear in the cave. Our defenses/ways of coping and triggers arise in ways that aren't helpful or productive/controllable. Reactions/responses seem to come from out of nowhere. These can be signs/symptoms of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm. All can be addressed and shifted in counseling, particularly through EMDR. I am certified in that field and have found it to be life-changing for many.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, I practice a person-centered therapeutic approach from a feminist, trauma-informed, empowerment perspective.
At times throughout our lives we may find ourselves feeling lost or confused due to sudden changes, uncertainty, or the inability to move forward. Understanding who and what shaped our lives as well as how those influences continue to impact us is empowering. Therapy is an excellent way to clarify our thoughts and understand our emotions in order to reach a healthy life balance. It can help us move from feeling helpless or hopeless to developing insight, daring, and resilience. The therapeutic process can instill a level of self-confidence and self-awareness inspiring us to become our ideal self.

Do you feel the stress of your daily life and need help managing? Do you struggle with trauma and want to try EMDR to improve your mindset? Life gets really tough sometimes! Relationships get hard and become difficult to manage. Figuring out your next move can be challenging, and you may be at a complete loss. You may be doubting yourself. Sometimes, people struggle because they don’t have support and feel alone. Sometimes, they never learned how to identify their own emotions and communicate them in a healthy or productive way. Sometimes, people struggle because they have unhealthy coping patterns.

As a counselor, I've come to learn and deeply believe that "healing" isn't about erasing our pain and avoiding the things that make us uncomfortable—it's learning to transform our relationship to our pain, and finding new ways to interact with this challenging, unpredictable world we're all part of. Whether it's navigating burnout and overwhelm, trying to move forward from trauma, or learning how to love and be loved more deeply, I believe we're all just trying to do our best with what we've got, and that the right set of helping hands at just the right time can make a whole world of difference.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
