I use positive psychology, narrative therapy, mindfulness, CBT and solution-focused interventions to facilitate the shift from a life where you are surviving to a life where you are thriving.
Welcome! By visiting my page, you're already one step closer to building a life that you love. I work best with clients (mostly in the early to middle adulthood age range) who feel anxious, depressed, inferior, out-of-balance, insecure, defensive, weak, traumatized, overwhelmed, defeated and/or maladjusted; as well as those who simply just want to develop insight into their own psychological world. I will help you to identify and process root wounds and sources of suffering in order to help you not only heal and bounce back, but to actually bounce forward, in your life. Expect to move towards healing, balance, and optimal wellness.

In addition to CBT and humor, I also incorporate positive psychology into my work with clients.
I’m Dr. Brandon, a therapist practicing in the State of Georgia and Washington, DC. My approach to therapy is grounded in evidence-based practices, designed to help you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be impacting your mental health. But therapy is very dynamic and doesn't have to be all serious! As someone who loves to laugh and believes in the healing power of humor, I also incorporate a healthy dose of levity into my sessions. In fact, research has shown that laughter can boost mood, reduce stress, and even strengthen our immune systems.

I work with clients from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, who have all come to a shared realization: that their way of living is no longer working for them. Whether they are struggling with addiction or depression or find themselves experiencing relationship difficulties, they all aspire to something new; something more. Together we identify the nature of their particular dissatisfaction, discover how they got there, and develop a more desirable and sustainable reality. I believe that my role is to be a nonjudgmental companion to my clients on their unique journey of self-discovery and profound change.

I specialize in helping my clients to feel a sense of freedom or relief from their anxious thoughts, while also exploring pathways for longer lasting personal and relational change. I work very collaboratively, and my goal is to help my clients to be more comfortable in their minds and effective in their lives. I take a research-informed treatment approach and I see this work as not only a way to get through a crisis or reduce a symptom, but as a path toward having a better toolkit for managing obstacles in the future.

I believe you’re stronger and wiser than your current struggles might lead you to believe. It’s just that sometimes our core strength gets covered up by the stress of life and the difficulties we’ve faced. With me, therapy is about helping your best self emerge, which often takes a big dose of compassion and a much-needed break. I work with clients on a variety of issues, including anxiety and depression, relationships and sex, career changes, grief, trauma, and growing up in dysfunctional families. I'm also passionate about supporting LGBTQ, trans, and gender expansive clients.

Therapy is a choice that may allow for insight, personal awareness and change. Therapy allows you to increase self-awareness so that you can be accountable for you thoughts, feelings, and actions and learn to avoid triggering situations, unhelpful patterns of behavior and overcome challenges you are facing. I firmly believe in a person's potential for growth by integrating aspects of their past into the present in an effort to heal. As you learn to externalize parts of your self, it is my hope that you become more comfortable with vulnerability and present in your daily life.

Life can be daunting. I help stressed out adults overcome anxiety, self-doubt and sleepless nights to find their footing and begin to create the lives they want. Are you your own worst critic? Maybe you can’t shake the feeling that your best is never good enough? Do the little things feel overwhelming? Is it hard for you to stick up for yourself and you’re left swallowing your anger or disappointment? My name is Liz Caritj and I work with people in high stress situations, particularly people working in the field of law or in rigorous academic programs, who feel like they’re falling apart trying to hold everything together perfectly.

My caseload is full of dynamic and wonderful clients who seek to change the way they relate to themselves, their life circumstances, and their relationships. I have a particular interest working with recovering alcoholics actively working their 12-step program but are "just feeling stuck". In addition, I especially enjoy supporting women seeking to be authentic to themselves and those around them. Together, we will identify your goals and I will support you in pursuing your personal growth, finding your own answers and balance, and identifying and resolving how your past may be unconsciously impacting your day-to-day life.

My clients are highly motivated to overcome their barriers to achieving stability, healthy relationships, & more feelings of joy and fulfillment. As someone who is neurodivergent, I appreciate the difficulty in achieving what we desire when our unique and adaptive ways of doing most things is widely misunderstood and unsupported. I use an individualized approach with each client and I think it is far more important to consider a person's unique circumstances, symptoms, & characteristics as opposed to taking a universal approach to treating specific diagnoses.

I'm Andrea Battiola, owner and psychotherapist at Peak Couples & Sex Therapy. Sex is an area of life that can both impact and be impacted by everything else in life. Yet we often feel so alone in our sexual lives with very few places and people to turn to for help. We believe that sexual health and relational well-being are at the core of our overall mental health. Our sexual needs, wants, fears and struggles all matter. I want to create the space for others that my younger self deserved to have when she was growing up, trying to understand how sex and relationships impacted her confidence, identity, values, and needs.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
