I am experienced with DBT, CBT, EMDR, strength-based, holistic, and psychodynamic approaches.
I believe that therapy is most effective when safety and trust are prioritized in the therapeutic relationship. I intentionally foster safety and trust so that I can provide a space where you grow and achieve your desire outcomes by gaining a deep understanding of self, societal, and trauma imposed limitations that hinder you from showing up in life the way you desire. Your session will become opportunity to explore beliefs and patterns, their origins, their impact, and a way forward. My ideal client is someone that is looking to transcend the imposed labels of life and reclaim their power to live and achieve balance.

My approach combines cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic models, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Trauma-Informed Therapy.
Hello! My name is Lynn Lynes and I am a psychotherapist licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. I have experience working with all ages, but my passion is working with teens and young adults; lots of young folks are experiencing Depression and suicide thoughts, Anxiety, Panic, OCD, substance abuse, PTSD, and/or Trauma. Most of us are resilient and can work through distressing events and overwhelming stress; however sometimes symptoms interfere with our ability to function to our full potential. That’s when it’s time to seek out an expert who can teach coping skills and provide a safe place to talk about stuff.

After prioritizing building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, I use a blend of skills I’ve learned from trauma-informed practices, somatic and experiential therapies, EMDR, and/or DBT to establish a supportive space for my clients to explore their feelings and vulnerabilities so that they can learn new ways of coping to make meaningful changes.
Are you struggling with past trauma that's currently impacting you, anxiety, burn out, people pleasing, codependency, perfectionism, a harsh inner critic, or your relationship w/ alcohol? Or are you a parent of a teen who is struggling with stress and anxiety, low-self esteem, depression, or self-harm? I am passionate about working with teens, adults and their families with the above needs. If you would like to become a more confident and authentic version of yourself, I'd be honored to support you. I fully understand how important the right therapist fit is to feel safe enough to open up.

I strive to empower clients in session to make sense of personal circumstances and experiences. Through greater exploration and self-understanding, clients can strengthen their sense of self and break down barriers. I use a client-centered and strengths-based integrative approach to improve self-esteem and autonomy. With a holistic, multicultural lens I help clients grow and seek clarity as they work through times of stress, anxiety, change, or stagnation. I believe self-compassion is one of the most important tenets of growth, and one of the most compassionate things one can do is seek and accept support.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
