Hi, I’m Ella, a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I work with teens, young adults, and adults navigating the messy parts of life—whether that is anxiety, depression, identity questions, big transitions, or a deep sense of “I just don’t feel like myself lately.” Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward—especially when they have been trying to hold it all together for a long time. My role is not to fix you (you're not broken). It is to walk with you through the fog, help you untangle what’s beneath the surface, and find a way forward.

Are you haunted by something in your past, hounded by negative self-talk, or feel stuck in some destructive pattern? Have you always felt a bit “different”, lacked a sense of belonging or haven’t ever quite fit in with society's “norms”? Are you highly intuitive, but can’t make sense of what your “gut” seems to be trying to tell you? Do you march to the beat of your own drum and often feel misunderstood by others? Have you recently had an “awakening” and need help “sorting everything out”? Perhaps you have always felt an inner calling but can’t quite figure out exactly what it is.

We all have a story to tell and a need to be understood. Therapy with me provides a safe space for healing unresolved feelings and "parts", such as the inner child. We will become collaborators in thought to piece together the past and present, making sense of what your symptoms and blocks are trying to tell you. Your anxiety, depression, fear of conflict, difficulty in romantic relationships etc. are trying to tell you something-but what? My work is rooted in making the unconscious conscious and in the understanding of how trauma affects healthy development. My goal is to help you get closer to your most authentic Self.

As a psychotherapist for 30 years I love seeing my patients get better! I firmly believe a "good fit" between therapist and patient is key to success. I love integrating evidenced based strategies that match my interpersonal style. In treatment we’ll address not only your current issues but their source. Therapy is a collaborative experience for my patients. It takes time to process and resolve the impact of chronic stress, trauma, abuse/neglect, shame, unhealthy relationships, conflict avoidance not to mention anxiety and depression. Yet with patience, persistence and the right therapist, it can be done!

I help individuals and couples address relationship challenges and low self-esteem. Maybe you struggle with setting boundaries, have ongoing conflict with someone, or feel like you're never good enough. These are all major contributors to depression and anxiety that are rooted in relationships. Relationships that deplete us will affect our mood and general well-being. This is particularly true when we've experienced trauma from emotional or Narcissistic abuse. With more effective communication skills, self-confidence, and awareness of patterns, it's possible to feel fulfilled again.

I love what I do, and I know why I do it. Since 2007 my focus has been coming along side of people and assisting them with challenges they face in life to become the most authentic and genuine person they were meant to be. In my own journey I've come to accept and appreciate the gifts I've been given, even if they're seemingly unrelated. I love my work as a therapist and I will always be passionate about performing music. How the two coexist within me is the journey I'm on. My focus has been in becoming a better therapist each day ... but I also know I'll never stop playing guitar and performing music, it's part of who I am.

Simply stated, I believe the main goal of therapy is to help you feel and function better. I approach counseling/therapy as a collaboration between you and me. It is an active process. (I won't just sit, passively listening to you talk, for 45 minutes, occasionally nodding my head.) We will decide what the issues are, formulate effective strategies to make necessary changes in thoughts and behaviors (including learning new skills if necessary), and work together to implement successfully those strategies. I will (with your input) tailor the therapeutic process to best fit your needs.

I know how hard day to day life can be, particularly if you're neurodivergent; grew up in less than ideal situations; struggle with depression, anxiety, or are living with chronic health conditions. I firmly believe that no one should have to process life alone. We all deserve access to grounded, and forthright support as we continue forward. My goal as a counselor is to gain a thorough understanding of who you are, and how you relate to the world, as an individual. I’m here for you. Period.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
