My ideal client is someone who has bravely chosen change but is uncertain about next steps to make those changes a reality. Such changes might involve beginning or ending important relationships, navigating the stressors of being a teenager, student, new employee or first-time parent, or simply committing to taking better care of one’s own mental health. I aim to help clients discover the keys to growth and healing that they already possess while providing insight into new ways to better care for themselves.

As a board certified music therapist, I believe creativity is an essential tool for life. Creativity makes us resilient, effective, helps us solve problems, and helps us imagine what is possible. You may be looking for creative ways to approach therapy for you or your child. You or your child may identify as neurodivergent and want to explore ways to manage stress, develop coping strategies, express complex emotions, develop emotional intelligence, and enjoy positive and affirming social experiences. Music creates a rich environment for all of that all while helping individuals build self-esteem and a positive sense of self.

Many of my clients are seeking understanding; of themselves, their patterns, and their relationships. Some come wanting to better understand their own internal world, while others are looking to feel more seen and understood in their important relationships. In our work together, I help clients explore the different “parts” of themselves, the roles those parts play, and the needs they are trying to express. We also examine the narratives that have shaped how they move through life, where those stories come from, and whether they still serve the life they want to build.

With over 25 years of experience as a therapist, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people as they navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life’s many transitions. I believe that who we are in this moment is shaped by the experiences we've carried. Understanding our past can open the door to meaningful, lasting change. Therapy is about making shifts- sometimes in how we see ourselves (we're often much kinder to others than we are to ourselves), sometimes in how we relate to those around us, and often in the small, day-to-day choices that quietly shape our lives. Even the smallest changes can create profound impact.

It is not possible to build a good home on a shaky foundation. This same principle applies to the life we build for ourselves. I work with people going through quarter-life or mid-life crises. We work together to help you heal and rebuild your foundation so that you can continue to build a thriving life. You could be a young adult who is struggling in relationships with parents, or a partner, or in your career. Or you could be a mid-life person struggling with marriage conflict, parenting clashes, or career trajectory. Or maybe you have addictions or habits that are poisoning your life that you want to get rid of.

My clinical philosophy can be captured by the following words… It’s not just in your head, it’s in your brain. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that much of the ongoing emotional and psychological distress we carry throughout life is rooted in traumatic underpinnings, which directly affects the central nervous system. In helping clients understand the neurological reasons behind their distress, and integrating techniques to support rewiring for well-being, individuals become more empowered and confident to creatively assume control for how they want to live their lives.

You find yourself stuck in painful or traumatic memories, no matter what you do. You jump to the future, worrying constantly about the worst case scenario. You can't seem to control these thoughts; they always come back, and they take away your joy, your ability to be present. I understand how frustrating it is to feel like a prisoner of your own anxiety; always looking backwards or forwards, but never experiencing the here and now. If we worked together, you will learn effective ways to cope with these thoughts so that you no longer feel trapped in your head. You will learn how to break free from the cycle of overthinking.

People come to therapy for different reasons—sometimes clear, sometimes harder to put into words. If something in your life or relationship feels off, we’ll make sense of it together. I work with couples who feel disconnected, stuck in the same patterns, or unsure how to talk about what matters. I also support individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. Many are navigating life transitions—becoming a parent, struggling to become one, or adjusting to roles and identities that don’t feel how they expected. We focus on understanding what’s driving it, so you can decide what feels right to change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
