I believe the heart of the family is the wellbeing of its members. I provide treatment to those who experience distress in their daily functioning from a variety of sources, which often impacts loved ones. My therapeutic style centers around cultivating a supportive therapeutic relationship to gain insight into other relationships in your life, including that which you hold with yourself. I specialize in treating individuals struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions. I practice primarily from a psychodynamic perspective, and enjoy working with clients who are open and willing to being curious about their place in this world as a product of past experiences and relationships. I value communication and authenticity, and strive to bring that in to each session.

I often view my work as supporting bodies in transition - in whatever form that comes. Many of my clients are those with medical illness or injury, caregivers, mothers, or trauma survivors who are faced with the impact that change in their physical self has on their mental and emotional well-being. Clients often wish to explore the mind-body connection, integrate non-verbal approaches, or find a new perspective on therapy. I also work with infants and children who deserve the same compassionate care, but don't benefit from verbal therapy in the same way.

I love my approach to brain wave training with neurofeedback. It is broadly effective at producing substantial results in your life that are enduring. Most often I see people with anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADHD, migraine, PTSD, addictions, bipolar and autism. I believe that most people with psychological issues have brain wave activity that is either over-aroused or under-aroused. That is, either too much or too little brain wave activity in either the fast or slow frequencies. Mental problems are a timing issue in the brain. These timing issues can be corrected by practicing a better way to function.

I am trained in object relations theory, but my experience as a high school counselor, family therapist and lawyer informs my flexible and practical approach. While offering a deep therapy experience that leads to enduring change and growth, I am mindful that patients need strategies to manage immediate concerns and feel relief during the change process. I approach patients with a belief that their early experiences and attachments have shaped the way they see themselves, how they approach relationships and what they expect from life. I seek to help patients develop new ways of relating that lead to healthier connections to others and increased autonomy.

The road to healing is a road that we all take at some point in our lives; the key is to travel with those who enhance the experience, aid in the traversing, and help us to experience the healing within our reach. As an individual, couple and family therapist, I work with you and those with whom you are journeying from a systemic perspective, taking into consideration the rich contexts which shape your life, love, and endeavors. A lot of my work within the community encompasses motivational speaking, facilitating workshops for adults and teens, Ministry, Missions, supporting leaders, and encouraging those who serve in Ministry.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
