The foundation of my training and philosophy is interpersonal and includes Gestalt theory/practice, sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness stress reduction, evolutionary spirituality, and recent advances in neurobiology as it applies to development, trauma resolution, relationships, and transitions across the life span.
Change and well being are possible. Relationships and circumstances of life often present challenges that overwhelm us mentally, emotionally, and physically. As a result we develop blocks in our thinking, feelings, and develop physical symptoms that cause distress and prevent us from functioning at an optimal level. I am dedicated to understanding your unique experiences and history. Together we develop a plan creating a well balanced integration between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Development of trust and the practice of mindful awareness enables self reflection, clarity of perspective and compassionate understanding of your history as it impacts present day choices.

Some of my areas of focus are: identity, anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, LGBTQ+, self-esteem, adoption, spirituality, transitions, and climate change.
I offer a safe, compassionate space for you to be seen, heard, and supported to become the person you aspire to be. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and also find Internal Family Systems to be a helpful model. With a background in dance, yoga, and meditation, I have a holistic outlook, and rather than focusing on one methodology, I tailor my approach based on your needs. I begin by helping you clarify what you want from therapy and then facilitating your way there as you access your strengths.

Discuss Inner Conflicts, Combative Couples, Fractured Families, Infidelity, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Racial Trauma, Black Fatigue, Sexual Satisfaction, and Spirituality.
Life is like a canvas; you are the artist holding the brush. Paint your dreams with courage, passion, and strength, and witness the beauty of your creation unfold. Create a life filled with happiness. Acknowledge and navigate the challenges, sorrows, struggles, and pain that may hinder your growth. Reflect on your sex life. Your background, beliefs, identity, and experiences are significant. Recognize how discrimination can dehumanize you. Develop ways to take care of yourself. The only limits that genuinely exist are the ones you impose on yourself. Let go of uncertainty and fear and embrace the endless possibilities.

Nothing in life is permanent; dealing with change and loss is inevitable. I believe that how we cope with these life transitions often defines who we are and who we will become. Working with people dealing with grief and loss, as well as with people in the arts confronting creative challenges, has been the focus of my practice for over 30 years. I've also worked extensively with young people who are gifted but considered "quirky" or socially awkward, with the goal of helping them realize the value of what they have to offer others.

As a learning disabled man, I am honored to work with neurodivergent and neurotypical people. I envision working with people, especially those on the autism spectrum, who have difficulty developing nourishing relationships, honoring themselves, and finding acceptance. I see my clients learning to sit with uncomfortable feelings and sensations, noticing their bodies, unmet needs, and humanity. From this, there is a shift from rejection to acceptance and holding. The body is no longer something to be avoided, but a home for healing, growth, and nourishment.

We are collectively experiencing trauma due to events like the pandemic, climate change, violence in our communities, and political strife. Trauma therapy techniques can help us explore how direct or indirect challenges are impacting our lives. Together, with kindness and compassion, we will gain a deep understanding of your life experience and identify, augment, and employ your strengths to the fullest. Individual growth and stability are possible when we are willing to look at all aspects of ourselves and apply that learning and understanding when navigating our lives in the chaotic world we live in.

In these turbulent times", people are experiencing a lack of meaning in their lives. Sometimes feeling adrift is a mask for anxiety/depression. How would it be if you could negotiate your relationships, work problems, and overall life issues free of these burdensome symptoms that often impede happiness and success, and have a devastating effect on physical health? As a trained clinical psychologist, I can be instrumental in helping you to rid your life of these obstacles.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
