About
Nothing in life is permanent; dealing with change and loss is inevitable. I believe that how we cope with these life transitions often defines who we are and who we will become. Working with people dealing with grief and loss, as well as with people in the arts confronting creative challenges, has been the focus of my practice for over 30 years. I've also worked extensively with young people who are gifted but considered "quirky" or socially awkward, with the goal of helping them realize the value of what they have to offer others.
I have a doctorate in clinical social work and have served as a consultant to the Family Division of the New Jersey Superior Court, focusing on the emotional needs of children and parents during the process of separation and divorce. In that capacity I developed a parent education program and accompanying video & handbook for divorcing parents.
I'm a former Presidential Faculty Appointee to the Columbia University Continuing Education Seminar on Death and Dying. I've also had my own experience with facing death. To learn more about that experience and my professional background, please visit www.drjanicecohn.com
