As a queer-identified counselor, I strive to work from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed lens where each person’s needs are seen and valued.
It can take a lot of courage and vulnerability to reach out and seek support for your mental and emotional wellbeing. My primary goal as a counselor is to create a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental space for folks to engage in their personal healing and growth. I believe in a collaborative and client-directed approach to therapy based on warmth, compassion, and humor.

At the Partnership for Trauma Recovery we believe that true healing happens when we find the courage to look at the root of the long standing patterns and difficulties we have. While learning to cope with the daily burdens of these patterns is an important skill, our philosophy is that simply learning to manage only places a bandage on the problem. In order to truly heal we have to look deeper into ourselves and try to determine where these patterns developed.

When we are faced with the common ebb and flow of life's challenges we sometimes cope in ways that may not serve our best-self, compromising our relationships, family, physical health, or career. This can leave us feeling out of balance, overwhelmed, and seeking a change. Through an integrative mind-body approach we will explore how the compromised aspects of your life impact you as a whole, while empowering you with tools and strategies to regain the balance you desire.

Thank you for reaching out. I recognize how this can sometimes be a very difficult first step. I specialize in treating depression/anxiety disorders, women's issues, life-stage transitions, and bereavement. My approach is strength-based and compassionate, grounded in the principles of Psychodynamic and Relational models. I offer support and validation, with a focus on what does work, as opposed to what isn't working. We will co-create strategies that reflect your values while navigating the sometimes disorienting terrain of change. I can help you develop new skill-sets to help heal and increase quality of life.

I am currently doing telehealth appointments and office appointments. Are you or your child suffering from worry, sadness, or other concerns that you don't know how to deal with? Sometimes you just need a counselor in order to explore where these concerns are coming from and develop new ways to cope, handle or think about situations differently. I counsel adults, adolescents, and children ages 10-12 years old around a variety of concerns.

My goal is to co-create a trusting relationship in which you can begin to explore and change the difficult patterns that have kept you from living to your fullest potential and happiness. We will work to understand the ways in which your history may have informed and limited your life and relationships (both with self and others). We will also look at how to transform, heal, and grow in the here and now; to respond rather than react when caught up in overwhelming emotions or negative thought patterns. I utilize a non-pathologizing and practical approach that includes mindfulness, self-compassion, and childhood trauma recovery.

It is OK to ask for help! Loads of information coming at our nervous systems on a regular basis, paired with unreasonable expectations often leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, angry and hopeless. When our brains and bodies are out of whack, they signal us that we need help by making it hard to ignore! I offer guidance and nurturing through somatic regulation, self expression, discovery of strengths, attuned listening, validated emotions, and more. I work with individuals of all ages in a warm, supportive, and safe environment.

I believe that we all have an innate capacity for healing and growth. Therapy allows us to tune into our strengths and our inner resilience. My practice is rooted in a trauma-informed perspective where I strive to facilitate a safe and collaborative environment in which to explore healthier ways of being. I also believe that a relationship based on a foundation of trust is important so you feel comfortable to explore deeply personal issues, develop self-awareness, and embark on the process of personal growth.

I currently have a wait list of about 6 weeks. I am not taking any new telehealth clients at this time. It's certainly not easy to keep all the "plates spinning" all the time, is it? We all get discouraged, distracted or thrown off track sometimes, especially when we have big changes happening. Counseling can help you learn new strategies to stay focused on what's important. I work with adults who experience depression, anxiety, relationship stress, and changes that come with age. I primarily provide in-person counseling, but also offer telehealth in some circumstances.

Healing is a lifelong journey, and I commend you for seeking support during the process. I believe that you are the expert of your life. I recognize the need for client-specific approaches to healing trauma, and I understand that trauma recovery involves regulating our nervous systems, reconnecting with our bodies, creating safety, and accessing the present moment. I am honored to work with those impacted by trauma, depression, and anxiety. I embrace the neurodiversity paradigm, and I have a special interest in working with clients who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and/or LGBTQIA+.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
