I work with adults with diverse backgrounds and identities who have experienced trauma, loss, difficulties in relationships, or difficulties with self-esteem, anxiety, and stress. I see therapy as an opportunity to enhance joy, spontaneity, meaning, and connection to yourself and others. It’s ideally an inviting, open, and safe place to explore your sense of your identity, and to learn about yourself in the context of a relationship.

Deciding to reach out to a therapist is a brave first step. Therapy can provide a safe, collaborative space to share and examine your most sensitive problems. Together we can work to understand what gets in the way, how longstanding patterns, and your emotional experience impacts your relationships and functioning in day-to-day life. I specialize in issues related to depression, anxiety, relationships, and low self-esteem. I work with patients in once weekly sessions and sometimes on a more frequent basis, given my belief that change requires a deep commitment and consistency.

People who come to see me are often struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, infertility and eating/body image concerns, or struggling with transitions in young adulthood.
Central to the therapy process is connecting with someone with whom you can openly explore your past and present; thoughts, feelings, and wishes. As a therapist I am committed to helping you understand the important experiences and patterns that have influenced your life and begin to find openings for new insights and greater meaning. This can allow for personal growth, more fulfilling relationships, and improved coping with difficulties

My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, eating disorders and relationship problems.
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

My expertise includes depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, loss, and relationships.
Emotional and Mental health issues inevitably have become part of our everyday living, though we simply cannot allow them to rule our lives. Learning to cope with stress, emotional pains and disappointing experiences (whether be school, relationship, work/other daily functioning) is a prerequisite to human existence.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
