About the Provider: I am a Board Certified, Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, (PMHNP-BC). I obtained my prfessional degree from Walden University. Over the years, I had professional affiliations with reputable mental health facilities including Bakersfield behavior, John George psych and more. I treat children and adults affected by various mental illness with care and compassion. I utilize Evidence Based Practice model to make treatment choices. I am specialized in treating ADHD, depression, anxiety and mood instability. Stimulant and non stimulant treatment are available. I do conduct ADHD screening and testing before treatment.

I have over 40 years experience as an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist. I help people who want to gain control over their emotions and behaviors through psychotherapy. I successfully treat patients who suffer from severe mental illnesses who require medication management as part of a treatment plan. I treat children with various emotional and developmental problems and coordinate care with other professionals. I perform evaluations to help patients with legal and occupational problems. I am often consulted to help families going through divorce and other losses.

Medication can provide wonderful relief for acute matters but only psychotherapy offers the possibility of fundamental change of life-long destructive patterns. With a combination of medication and therapy I have helped many patients to achieve a better life. I started my career doing an internship at a prestigious children’s hospital in the Texas Medical Center on an adolescent GI unit where I was able to work with individuals with eating related disorders. I then went on to complete my Bachelors in Nursing Degree and began working as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Unit caring for the psychiatric population.

Dr. Tavakkoli is a New York-based, board-certified psychiatrist with more than 20 years of clinical, public health, and leadership experience. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University and is affiliated with Rockland Psychiatric Center. Dr. Tavakkoli has degrees in Medicine and Public Health from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Global Health and Population from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his psychiatry residency and chief residency at New York Medical College and has previously served as the Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry and Site Director for medical student edu

I am a board-certified Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and neuroscientist at Columbia University with expertise in treating a range of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, adult ADHD, substance use, and psychosis.
