Kathleen “Kate” Hawk is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Yale University. She has provided psychiatric services in Western Massachusetts since 2013 and feels privileged to reside in our diverse community. I am a Board Certified psychiatrist and have been practicing for 41 years. I have expertise and extensive training in interpersonal and dynamic psychotherapy, and in psychopharmacology. I believe in working with patients to develop a treatment plan that is uniquely appropriate to them, and I devote the time necessary to provide the care patients need. And to provide maximum therapeutic benefit with minimum negative side effects, I take a conservative approach to medication, and get to know you well before prescribing.

I prescribe medication for mental health problems such as anxiety depression and bipolar disorder. I also help patients with substance use disorder with vivitrol. I do not prescribe suboxone or methadone. I believe if you treat the underlying problem recovery will be permanent. Failure to treat the underlying anxiety, depression etc., leads to constant relapse. My goal is to provide nonjudgemental treatment to patients who want to feel better. In addition to medication management and brief therapy, I incorporate nutritional practices when applicable. I have extensive experience working with people with substance use disorders, and although I am unable to provide detox or acute withdrawal treatment in this setting, I can provide consults with recommendations for your PCP or other provider.
