As a parent of little ones myself, I know what it's like to be in the thick of it.
Has becoming a parent been more challenging than you expected? Are you struggling to feel connected to your partner or to your baby? Are you feeling unsupported, exhausted, fearful, or sad when you thought you would be feeling elated? Are you questioning whether your experience is normal and wondering if things could be better? Now more than ever, moms and parents are feeling the pressure to be "perfect" without the support they really need to thrive. You can and should be doing more than just surviving parenthood.

I use community-based experience and evidence-based practices derived from cognitive behavioral therapy, parent coaching, somatic and trauma informed therapy.
As a bilingual and bicultural Spanish speaking therapist I have a passion to work with Latinx community. I believe it is very important to understand a client's background, and belief system from a cultural and social perspective. I have experience supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, life transitions and parenting challenges. I work with adults, children and their parents/caregivers. People need a space where they can feel listened and safe to tell stories of pain and trauma. But also, a place where someone believes in them and can be an ally in their path to find their authentic self.

I specialize in helping individuals and families dealing with depression, anxiety, feeling stuck and "burnout" as well as parent/child power struggles and relationship conflicts, issues with body image and disordered eating including ED-DMT1/"diabulimia".
I am passionate about helping people with complex, highly demanding medical conditions, particularly diabetes, to face the emotional and behavioral challenges that so often accompany chronic health problems. I also enjoy working with 15+ teens and young women struggling with feelings of being "too much" and still "not enough". There is hope, and I can help you overcome frustration and discouragement to find peace, balance and a sense of purpose. You are not alone, and you don't have to do this alone.

Intuitive Parenting is a closed group running in 6 week increments dedicated to parents of children 5 years and younger. Intuitive parenting describes the concept that your parenting doesn't start with a style, book or perspective. It begins with you, your partner and both your families of origin. Exploring and understanding where you naturally fall as a parent, what your temperament and triggers might be and how to learn the secret weapon to connective and authentic parenting isn't perfection but repair and reconnection.

Pregnancy and Parenthood changes, well... everything? Picture sipping a warm and comforting beverage while navigating, analyzing and being curious about the twists and turns of this transformative journey. In my approach we use our time intuitively, choosing curiosity over criticism. Let's explore the bumps, the messy moments, and embrace mistakes as stepping stones for growth and change. In our time together, we'll find laughter and tears amid sleepless nights, making therapy a space to celebrate the wild, beautiful ride of becoming a parent.

Despite your best efforts, life is unknowable - you can't always predict or be prepared for what comes your way. Difficulties are inevitable. When they occur, you might need help sorting out what's going on and what to do next. The good news is, therapy helps. When you're feeling miserable, unlovable and afraid, therapy helps. When you find yourself asking the question "why me?", therapy helps. When you're ready to step into your life and take charge of it, instead of having it take charge of you, therapy helps.

Has your tween or teen come out as transgender, non-binary, or genderqueer? Is your kiddo experimenting with gender-bending clothes, pronouns, or other self-expression? You may be struggling with big feelings: confusion, guilt, sadness, grief, rejection, shame, or even resentment or anger. While these feelings are 100% normal, you may feel very isolated and alone. Unfortunately, if your emotions spill over onto your kiddo, it can hurt them deeply, which can damage their trust in you. This group is a safe space to share your emotions with other parents on this journey. Come find compassion, community, and support!

People often say (and studies show) the most healing aspect of therapy is feeling heard and understood by the therapist. I work with adults and teens seeking support, clarity, calm, and insight navigating the stresses, fears, and uncertainty of life. In sessions clients often say they feel understood and more clear about how to proceed. My intent is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space for you to process what is going right and what areas you need to change or see things differently in your life. Therapy with me is insightful, mindfulness-based, and helps you move forward in your life.

You may be experiencing a great loss, or even many losses from the pandemic, or feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve your growth. You may be experiencing pain or conflict in relationships, anxiety at work, stress from trying to “balance it all”, or residual pain from the past. There may be a sense of increased collective grief and eco-anxiety. The discomfort brings us back into conversation with ourselves- all the parts. From here we begin the process of healing and meaning making, to come to inhabit your life in a more embodied, present, and clear way.

We all come to parenting with our own stories and narrative of being parented. We also come with our story of how we came to be parents. This group is geared towards moms who have survived violence in their lives and this group will provide a supportive and empowering space as women and moms and powerful beings. And to cultivate healing as to have a different story for our children.

Parenting Support Groups

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
