Grief Support Groups in Nashville, TN

The early, anticipated, or unexpected loss of a parent is like a disease that invades every aspect of our lives. This small therapeutic group will create safety + space for sharing. Grief both disrupts everything and provides the opportunity to deepen our understanding of self + the world around us. While suffering is inevitable, doing so in isolation is intolerable. Disclaimer: This is a closed group specific to individuals who have lost a parent/parent-figure/guardian + only offered to current/former/new clients who've established care. This group was developed to meet the needs of the provider's client population.

Grief is a lifelong process, and finding a space where your grief is accepted, embraced, and truly understood can feel impossible. This group welcomes adults aged 22-35 who have experienced the loss of a parental figure at any point in life, and offers an opportunity to find community in grief and process alongside others who can relate to the complexities of such a loss. I am passionate about partnering with clients at the intersection of trauma (PTSD, complex trauma/C-PTSD) and neurodivergence, as well as those navigating grief and loss, and other difficult life transitions.
Has traditional talk therapy fallen short in helping you find the root of the issues you repeatedly face? Are you struggling to understand and change the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and disconnected? You may be struggling to navigate relationships, battle loud negative self-talk, or experience debilitating feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment. If these experiences sound all too familiar, you're in the right place. I aim to equip my clients with the skills to manage difficult thoughts and emotions, navigate relationship struggles, and heal their trauma from the root.

In this 8-week group, participants will be supported in moving through one of the most challenging and profound things we can experience as humans: losing someone close to us. Whether the person lost was a close or complicated relationship, group members will be guided with care and nuance to honor both the universalities and the uniqueness of each person’s loss. Grief work is sacred, and we will weave in a variety of experiential approaches to honor and alchemize the complex, layered nature of grief.

I work with adults navigating grief and loss, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and folks who are grappling with existential questions related to life, death, and meaning.
You are a multifaceted, rare, precious gem of a human, and I want to support you in shedding the conditioning that prevents you from sharing your magic with the world. The cards we are dealt are often unfair/unequal. We did not choose the bodies we were born into, the parents or caretakers we were given, the environments we grew up in, our pain or trauma, or the injustices woven into the systems we inherited. We are not responsible for what is inflicted upon us, but we are responsible for our healing. And like the water carves through rock, you too can start upon the path and life you desire.

This is a process and support group for adults experiencing grief and loss. While grief is a natural part of the healing process after a loss, it can be painful and difficult to move forward on your own. Sharing the experience with others can help you acknowledge, express, and process your emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you experienced a loss recently or some time ago, we’re here to meet you wherever you are. Group sessions are ninety minutes, held in-person, and facilitated by two female therapists. Please call or email for more information.

Those who are facing heart break, loneliness, family questions, drama, life transitions, trauma, loss and grief, anxiety and depression, those who have experienced abuse of any kind, those who are wanting to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, & those who just need guidance.
There is a stigma that seeking counseling is weak or only for those who are going through “really hard things” - both of those statements are simply not true. Taking time to focus on who you are and pouring into your mental health is a great way to love yourself. With that being said, it takes a great amount of vulnerability, humility, courage, and hope to open up to someone about things you may have never talked to anyone about before. My desire as a counselor is to build trust and help you feel safe and comfortable as we work together.

I find many individuals reaching out with depression, anxiety, grief, and family of origin issues in addition to a specialized population of creative clients, those going through significant life transitions, LGBTQA clients, and individuals reconstructing their beliefs and sense of self from unhealthy family systems and harmful religious/spiritual beliefs. I work with adult individuals, couples, and groups.  In addition, I offer uniquely tailored intensives and ecotherapy sessions and healing religious trauma groups for clients desiring an alternative to traditional, office based talk therapy.

I am a caring and empathetic person who has a heart for helping people. As a therapist I seek to work collaboratively with clients in establishing treatment goals. My hope is that clients will learn new and healthier ways of living and gain a greater ability to treat both themselves and others with compassion. It takes courage to step into the therapy room, so I work to provide a disarming and open space for clients to share. My curiosity guides me as I get to know people for who they are and I enjoy helping clients learn to think, feel, and act in new, productive ways to become the people they want to be.

Women are often disconnected from our body's experience and inherent wisdom. This separation occurs for many reasons: lifelong conditioning that our bodies are unacceptable in their natural form, traumatic events, childhood neglect and/or childhood abuse, and dysfunctional relationships. Join a gathering of nurturing women engaged in the practice of loving themselves whole through writing. We will use poetry, journaling, and creative prompts to explore our histories while learning to hold those experiences with the empathy and love we so freely offer others.

In Process, women in MS and TN create a place to share themselves and lives - to their own level of willingness - in a safe community.  Process includes speaking and listening with the mind and heart - to ourselves, our bodies, and each other. It includes opportunities to get creative, to share tears and laughter. Groups meet 1st & 3rd Thursdays for $75 each, committing to 8 session at a time. If you're not already in therapy with me, an assessment ($180) is required to make sure this group is a good fit for where you are in your own process, assuming there is an open spot.

I work with people who are experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, and the constricting effects of trauma.
Each of us has our own unique path and challenges to navigate in this life. Many of us struggle to find the freedom to live out our truth and to follow our hearts because we are bound by societal and/or familial conditioning and programming that pressures us to fit into a certain mold that may not align with who we are and what we find to be true. This binding can often show up as anxiety or unhappiness, and many of us have trauma that continues to live in our bodies influencing the ways in which we react to what we encounter in life. We can work together to understand and alleviate what is keeping you from being more free.

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
