I'm a person-centred pluralistic counsellor, so I value empathy, authenticity and unconditional acceptance enormously.
When we're struggling, we have many urgent needs: to be held and understood, to feel warmth, empathy and compassion, to have guidance, support, safety, wisdom. Sometimes we need help with a specific issue, and at other times we might have a vague feeling that something is wrong but not quite know what, or how to make it better. We might find ourselves in the depths of despair, or feel sort of OK but keep wondering if there's more to life. If you recognise yourself in any of the above then there is a good chance that counselling, which is a combination of science and humanity, would help you. It could even be life-changing.

My method of counselling is called person-centred.
Counselling is a safe place for you to stop, take stock and explore the parts of your life that you are finding difficult. It is a time for you to use for whatever you decide, and always without pressure or judgement. I have particular experience in working with trauma and sexual abuse, but you can use counselling for all sorts of issues, for example self-esteem, stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationships, suicidal thoughts, harassment at work, identity issues, breakup, or decision-making. Dealing with ‘unwanted habits’ of whatever kind can be a large part of counselling.

Person-Centred Therapy emphasises recognising you (the client) as an equal and an expert on yourself.
Originally from Manchester, I now live in Glasgow. I started my counselling training in London on Goldsmith University’s Graduate Certificate in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling, before completing the University of Strathclyde’s MSc, Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Strathclyde I trained in Person-Centred Therapy and this forms the basis of my practice. I have experience working with a wide variety of people, I’m particularly familiar with autism and neurodiversity, and I work with all kinds of issues including depression and anxiety, as well as those vague feelings of just not being what you ought to be.

I work in a Person-Centred way that recognises and values each person as a unique individual without judgement or prejudice.
It is normal from time to time in our life for us to seek support, reassurance and acceptance when faced with change, challenges and uncertainty. Choosing therapy can feel scary and daunting however counselling can provide the space for you to explore and navigate the difficulties which are having a negative impact on your mental health and wellbeing. Finding the right counsellor for you is imperative and I offer a Free 15-minute consultation to chat and to see if working together feels like a good fit for you.

Finding a therapist who you feel really "gets you" is not always easy and can take time. From personal experience I know how invaluable therapy can be when you share your vulnerabilities and receive compassion without judgement in return. Whatever is bringing you to counselling at this time in your life, I would offer you an open and honest space to share your feelings without fear of rejection. I would be privileged to help in your search for the answers that you are looking for to move forward from where you are now, and in doing so help you feel more at peace within yourself.

As a person-centred therapist, I understand that you know more about your life than I will, and rather than positioning myself as an automatic expert on your situation, I'll walk alongside you on your journey towards goals that you set.
Finding the right counsellor can be tricky, especially if you're feeling low. I am a calm, warm and open counsellor, who aims to ensure you feel comfortable and secure as soon as possible. I work in a way that emphasises your autonomy, with the aim to promote improved mental health and attain therapeutic outcomes set by you. Previously, I have worked with clients who have experienced grief, depression, loss, trauma, self-harm and other mental health issues. I am open to all clients looking to understand themselves more fully as they navigate their complex lives.

As a fully qualified psychodynamic, relational therapist, I offer an accepting, exploratory, and empathic space to consider any and all aspects of your life. I believe that therapy is less about finding the solutions, and more about exploring the questions themselves. I will work to build a relationship with you where you feel able to untangle some of your experience and find ways forward that feel authentic for you.

Do you feel like you live in a world that doesn’t accept who you are? A dear friend of mine once summed up this feeling beautifully: “Being LGBTIQ+ is not my issue, it’s living in a world where others take issue with me being LGBTIQ+”. When we live in a society that does not see or respect our difference we internalize a lot of messages and beliefs about who we should, or should not, be. Trying to shape ourselves into an image that doesn’t fit isn’t just exhausting - it’s traumatizing! Hi, my name is Gavin and I identify as a gender non-conforming Queer person.

A BACP reg, Integrative Therapist, trained in Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. I'm also undertaking an MA in Anthropology because my approach considers the impact of evolutionary psychology, cultural, and socioeconomical influences. How I work with clients is also underpinned by feminist, gender and queer theory. My aim is to facilitate a space for individuals to talk and explore problems and pain, but also heighten awareness and understanding about the blocks that are maintaining their sense of stagnation. By making what is unconscious conscious we begin to create an effective way forward.

Are you tired of pretending everything’s fine or fed up of not feeling heard? Maybe you’ve been blindsided by life events, feel overwhelmed and need to make changes but don’t know where to start? I support people coping with change and loss, such as relationship difficulties, shifts in sexual identity, new careers, retirement, parenthood, illness or bereavement. Life changes like these can bring up doubts and fears that shake your sense of self. You may also find that traumatic or distressing events from the past push their way up and refuse to be ignored. I can help you face things that seem too daunting to tackle alone.

Whatever your reason for seeking counselling; abuse, anxiety, overthinking, self-esteem, work or relationship issues, to name but a few, you're probably looking for something to change. Counselling offers you a different kind of relationship, one where you can open up, explore and reassess current or historic issues which may be holding you back. With greater understanding comes greater resilience and self-empowerment, which can enable you to make the changes you want in order to enjoy your life more fully. That life can be hard is a fact. That we have to face challenging times alone is not. Get in touch and start that change!

Are you tired of wearing a mask and not feeling like yourself around others? You don't have to be alone in this. I will sit alongside you and explore all that heaviness you are carrying together so you can finally put it down. Sometimes, we may not feel like we have control over our lives because of this, and the way we cope (substance or alcohol use, gaming, doom scrolling on social media, etc.) can get in the way of having connections and being who we really are in them. Counselling with me can support you in exploring these patterns, too, so you can live a more fulfilling, connecting life by being yourself.
