About
Dot has over a decade of experience assessing, understanding and treating a breadth of psychological difficulties, ranging from mild to complex. Dot regularly works with people who struggle with anxiety/panic and low mood/depression, shyness/social anxiety, burnout, trauma and grief. She has worked with people experiencing complex and chronic mental health problems, including childhood trauma, interpersonal difficulties, hearing voices, difficulties with emotional regulation, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Dot also has extensive experience working with people who have eating problems (anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder).
Dot obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from the University of Edinburgh. She draws on a combination of evidence-based psychological therapies, including Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She holds accreditation with the HCPC and BPS.
Dot believes that there is not a “one-size fits all” when it comes to thinking about improving and maintaining our mental health so she will individualise care to meet your needs in line with your specific difficulties and experiences to create lasting change. Alongside delivering therapy remotely, Dot also delivers therapy face-to-face in the outdoors.

Dorothy Tait's Groups
Outdoor therapy group
I have an outdoor therapy group starting in 2023 where we will meet regularly (for up to 2 hours) on a weekly basis (at an allocated area in Scotland). There will be a psychology theme each week. The aim is to create a community where we can connect, feel less alone and support each other – it is so important to find ways to stay mentally healthy together. I am passionate about keeping people well and believe that maintenance and prevention is just as important as intervention. Please get in touch if you would be interested in coming along.
