I know that trying to find a therapist can feel like a daunting experience, especially for parents, you have limited time, limited capacity to juggle one more thing, but you feel like you need the support. I offer therapy for those who have experienced trauma or distress during any part of the perinatal period: trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth or in parenthood. I have a passion for supporting those who have been through neonatal care or hospitalisation with their babies. Maybe you are experiencing high levels of anxiety since becoming a parent, issues with your identity or struggling to process what happened to you...

If you’re struggling or feeling stuck in your life, I can help. Maybe you feel like something is missing, you feel sad or angry, or you’re in the middle of difficult life changes. Outwardly you might look fine, but inside you might be depressed, anxious, or have problems with relationships. I provide a safe space for you to feel less overwhelmed, feel less stressed, and happier. You will be helped to work through your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour in a non-judgemental way. We’ll work towards understanding where these come from so we can change how you deal with them. I work mainly online with some walk & talk availability.

I aim to put your interests first, respect your autonomy and confidentiality, and value diversity; all within clear ethical boundaries. I welcome different ways of being so if you like to speak a lot, enjoy moments of silence, want to doodle, draw mind maps, make notes etc.; you can do so in our sessions. Clients experience relief that they can be themselves whether that’s feeling sad, happy, angry, despondent, confused or other emotions. I have been described as being inviting, warm, understanding and down to earth.

If you feel overwhelmed, burnt out, stressed, emotionally depleted, anxious, depressed or unhappy, I am here to listen and support you. If you can identify with any or a number of these issues you may also be lacking in confidence or have a poor sense of self worth. You may feel afraid, lost, confused or could be experiencing debilitating fatigue. These emotions and physical sensations can lead you to feel that life has no meaning or purpose. Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are very common too.

Our relationships are the source of our greatest joys and deepest heartaches. At times we will experience loss, neglect or betrayal of someone we trusted. A devastating experience. Other times the 'spark' may have just gone from our relationship and we don't know how to rekindle intimacy. I work with couples, families and individuals who are struggling with close relationships. Life can be quite challenging at times and things can become very overwhelming and this can have an impact on our health and wellbeing and sometimes we just need a little help. Counselling can provide you with the space to reflect and work through your difficulties alongside myself as your counsellor. As a person-centred counsellor I will work with you at your pace and be led by you therefore putting you in control. Feeling heard and supported is so important and counselling is not about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes

Good mental health is not simply the absence of psychological problems. It is about thinking, acting and feeling in ways that enable you to live joyfully, overcome challenges and flourish. Choices when selecting a professional can be overwhelming. Looking at the lists of therapists and reading about different therapies that you cannot really understand might be frustrating. Whether you are feeling stressed or depressed, you are facing a crisis point in your life or trying to find meaning, or if you simply cannot go on as you have been, I can help you to look at things differently and find your own new way of being.

Hello, I'm a fully trained counselling psychotherapist and I offer private individual therapy on an ongoing or short-term basis. I am trained in the psychodynamic method and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and use an integration of these ideas to best help you. It can be difficult to find a space to reflect and I offer a secure, non-judgemental, confidential environment, where together we can find that space for you. I am very patient and understand that taking that first step towards counselling, and beginning to make changes can be very difficult and I'll do my very best to support you.

Hi – my name is Jo. I’m a Counselling Psychotherapist and I work with both adults and children. Sometimes life will present us with challenges and difficulties that we struggle to make sense of, or that make us feel stuck and unable to move forward positively. Not knowing what to do or how to be when we have these experiences can create a diverse set of uncomfortable feelings. Its different for everyone...whilst one person may feel overwhelmed or isolated, another may struggle with anger, anxiety or depression. Perhaps this sounds like you?

Intimate relationships can sometimes be difficult and even painful, whether we are currently in one, have recently left one, or are alone and longing to be part of a couple. I specialise in helping people with sexual and relationship issues as they affect both individuals and couples. If you are in a couple, I will provide you with a supportive, neutral environment in which it becomes possible to think and communicate in ways you may find it difficult to do on your own. When it comes to sexual issues, I will make you feel comfortable talking about them, and provide you with information, advice, and homework as needed.

Working within the mental health and safeguarding arena’s for many years I have nurtured a genuine fascination for people and their individual stories. I am able to employ this diverse experience to inform my practice as a Psychotherapist. As a Counsellor for Rape Crisis I have significant experience of working with survivors of sexual violence and trauma. Additionally, I have worked with the Police service for 18 years, developing a passion for working individually with emergency services, medical or armed forces personnel to help them process the many sources of trauma they encounter in their working lives.

How can I find a therapist in LE16?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
