My name is Erica and I specialise in pet bereavement counselling. I particularly focus on addressing the often-overlooked grief that comes with pet loss. Many people, including employers, may devalue this grief, making it even harder to cope with. This can lead to feelings of shame and the need to hide your true emotions. In our sessions, I offer a safe, judgement-free space where you can honour your family member and work through your grief without feeling ashamed.

If you have come to a point in your life where things have become too much and you feel you or a member of your family need some extra support, then counselling is a great way to reach out. Through building an honest and trustworthy relationship, I aim to help my clients understand and overcome their difficulties whilst developing tools to help them in the future. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a number of different approaches to counselling. This allows for an open space where we can explore different ideas and find what works best for you. This may include creative work, looking at theory, or mindfulness.

Many people come to counselling feeling emotionally overwhelmed. You may feel unseen or unheard in your relationships with others, you may feel incongruence between who you really are and who you'd like to be. You may have experienced painful traumas, difficult relationships with others, inner conflicts or significant losses which have led to feelings of sadness, anxiety, despair, depression, loss, anger, frustration, shame and guilt (amongst many). I believe that healing this pain needs a relationship where you can start bringing things into conscious awareness and allow yourself to experience and process them in a healthy way.

My counselling service is consciously focused toward men, providing a space to feel safe and supported to work through issues. It's often a misconception that 'men don't talk about feelings', rather that men don't know that counselling can be for them too. Some of the reasons to come to counselling include; Sex or Relationship Issues, Questioning or coming to terms with Sexuality, Work Issues, Bullying, both emotional or physical, Anxiety, Depression, dealing with loss and bereavement. I am a fully qualified Person Centred Therapist and registered member of the BACP.

Hi am Felicity, a Level 4 Dip counsellor, and registered member of the BACP. I work with adults experiencing a variety of struggles including anger, sadness, anxiety or hopelessness which are impacting negatively upon their relationships, work and life in general. Perhaps it has become impossible to meet your own needs due to placing the needs of others above your own, and a reluctance to say 'no' is leaving you burnt out. Life in the current climate has seen an increase in people struggling with their mental health and in need of some support, yet not knowing where to turn for understanding and validation can be lonely.

Through my work as a psychotherapist and Children and families social worker since 1989 I have developed my knowledge and experience in supporting those who have experienced early life trauma, separation and loss. I have a particular interest in attachment theory and its clinical applications. Our childhood experiences may continue to impact our adult lives and ability to make and sustain healthy and emotionally secure relationships. Although psychoanalytically trained my clinical practice is predominately attachment based and trauma informed. I offer both brief and longer term therapeutic support to individuals, couples and groups.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
