I have been working in this field for over twenty years now and I still have a determined passion for it. I am trusted to hear the life narratives and difficulties of those seeking support and my aim is to help you feel heard and empowered. I have never lost sight of this aim. I have worked with people who have felt very isolated by their own thoughts, felt intense shame, and struggled to cope with overwhelming feelings. Usually they have not felt able to talk to those around them for fear of judgment, embarrassment or rejection. I feel privileged to have been trusted by my clients which enables me to help lessen their burden.

Life isn't always easy and sometimes the challenges we face can be overwhelming. We can be left feeling difficult emotions, anger, grief or depression for example which can be a struggle and interfere with our daily life. Maybe there are events or relationships in your life, past or present which you are struggling to come to terms with and want time to explore. It's not always easy to talk to the people around you, maybe you feel they won't understand, that you are a burden, or that they are part of the problem.

Are you puzzled why 'things' are not working out for you ? Do you feel 'stressed all the time ? Are you curious about why you are the person you are ? Why you live the life you do ? Is there a pattern you recognise about yourself, that you 'don't get' but seems unchangeable? Do you feel 'stuck' and unable to live the life you want? Does that desire to live the best life you can seem limited by illness or a potential or actual genetic blue print that isn't changeable ? If you have any of these thoughts or similar, then I can help you to find your answers. I have energy, experience, resources and commitment for this work with you.

Life can be hard at times. We can experience loss, changes in our health, family circumstances or work life. Maybe our relationships are not fulfilling our needs and we do not know how to change things. At times, we don’t feel good about ourselves, we lose confidence in our ability to cope with life or maybe we feel impacted by past experiences or held back through feelings of anger, shame or guilt. Sometimes we don’t know what’s wrong, but we just know something isn’t right. I can help you explore what is going on for you by giving you a supportive space to talk and be heard.

Hi, I'm Tracey, I specialise in psychological therapy for women. I understand that, as a woman, there are many unique challenges and life transitions to face. Relationship difficulties, work challenges, pregnancy and motherhood, perimenopause and menopause, bereavements, traumas, the list can seem endless. I am passionate in helping clients to take the right steps for them. I support you, to make a difference or find an acceptance in everyday life. I work with my clients in exploring the difficulties fears re experiencing and we work to gain an understanding of thoughts and feelings. Their emotional disturbance can be discussed and put in to perspective to help make changes to the unhealthy thought or behavioural patterns. Sometimes, addressing where the negative beliefs have originated from, helps to find the positive changes and overcomes the difficulties. Giving my clients a new awareness, growth and belief.

We all experience difficult times in our lives, suffering anxiety, depression, stress, anger, relationship issues, grief, bereavement, physical illness, emotional/physical abuse, low mood, and low motivation, to name just a few of the reasons people come to therapy. At times we will feel like we don’t want to ‘burden’ people with how we feel so we try to push through and carry on, we try to pretend all is ok, we try and cope by putting on a smile and a brave face, often we simply find we are unable to move forward and feel stuck.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
