They often struggle with communication barriers, unresolved conflicts, or feelings of isolation and anxiety.
As a person-centred therapist, my ideal client seeks a compassionate, non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts and feelings. They may be experiencing grief from a recent bereavement or loss, feeling overwhelmed by emotions and needing someone to listen without offering unsolicited advice.

Burnout, stress, anxiety, low mood, chronic illness, life changes, or past trauma can all make it harder to cope and feel grounded in daily life.
In sessions, we explore who you are; your thoughts, feelings, relationships, patterns, and values, alongside the life you want for yourself. I work in a trauma- and neurodiversity-informed way, offering gentle challenge and support to deepen self-understanding, build healthier boundaries, and reconnect with yourself.

This is about you and I'm here to listen sensitively as we work together in a confidential setting so you feel you can talk openly and freely. It is about a therapeutic relationship as I offer emotional warmth and respect, encouraging you to explore what has brought you to counselling. To offer an empathic understanding is about you knowing I am on the journey with you making sense of what is happening but being guided by your direction of what is important for you to bring to the session.

As a humanistic-integrative counsellor and supervisor+, I take the view that there is no single approach that can treat every client, in all situations. I therefore offer an approach to counselling that combines different elements of several specific therapies so as to enable me to provide the appropriate interventions for each individual. I believe each person is an 'unique whole' and counselling techniques are best tailored to fit the unique individuals needs and personal circumstances. It is of primary importance to me that I offer you highly confidential service based on you as an individual in your distinctive circumstances.

You may be struggling to manage; anxiety, depression; or perhaps you have experienced difficulties in the past which still affect you; childhood trauma or adversity?
Counselling/Psychology: Evidence based practice is shown to create understanding, support autonomy and create sustainable change. It can help us to identify the factors which are contributing to the problem, so we can step out of old habits and create new ways to tackle the stressful stuff we have to cope with. It can help us to recover from past issues.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
