I work in a down-to-earth friendly way utilizing the models of several different therapeutic approaches: person-centred, CBT and psychodynamic.
If you are seeking counselling for the first time, or want to reconnect with therapy, it can feel a bit daunting trying to choose a therapist. Finding someone you feel comfortable with is the key, so I offer a free initial consultation. Come along or call me for a 20 minute, no obligation, conversation to help you make up your mind. If we decide to work together, my aim will be to provide a safe and professional space where we can build a strong therapeutic relationship which will enable you to talk freely about whatever it is that brings you to therapy.

My core modality is person-centred counselling and I have training in psychodynamic theory, somatic lead trauma therapy and play therapy.
There are often many reasons that bring people to counselling. Perhaps you are feeling lonely or disconnected from the people around you. Perhaps you would like to talk to someone about making changes in your life, or maybe you are feeling stuck, anxious, or depressed, and would like a little extra support to help you through a difficult time. Perhaps you can't quite put your finger on what is wrong, and would like somewhere to express yourself and make sense of your thoughts and feelings?

My work is informed by a range of counselling models, predominantly psychodynamic, systemic and brief-focused therapy, and I aim to provide what is most appropriat.
Sometimes in life, we need space to take a breath and for someone trusted and neutral to hear our difficulties to help us see a way forward. At the heart of my therapy, there is a safe relationship within a confidential space, where you feel heard and encouraged to talk freely about the challenges life is bringing you and to explore ways forward towards long-lasting change. You may find yourself struggling with a crisis, a specific life event, or an issue that has been building up over a long time, or you may recognise certain patterns of behaviour that hold you back.

Currently working with clients using psychodynamic therapy, MBT and EMDR.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking therapy based on saying whatever is going through your mind. It can help you with issues related to trauma, relationships, grief, depression, anxiety, or major life changes. It helps you become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your problems. Many people come into therapy because they feel they are trapped by their past & want to talk it through with someone & work through things on a deeper level. I aim to provide a safe, personal space where you can talk about yourself & what troubles you, to try to understand the connections & patterns.

My roots are in psychodynamic practice, though I draw from a range of approaches to help you access your 'inner world'.
Welcome. Whatever has brought you to scroll these profiles, the right therapeutic relationship can help you be heard, seen and understood. The journey often starts in a place of discomfort: anxiety, bereavement, feeling lost, stuck or frustrated with repeated patterns of behaviour that you can't seem to shift (in life and relationships), physical or mental health problems or the pain of old wounds that haven't healed. These crisis moments are often a call to personal growth and development, and sometimes to find a new path in life. I can offer you a safe and non-judgemental space to explore your situation and begin to move forward.

Sometimes life can feel difficult and we may feel confused, lost or alone, even if we are surrounded by others. At times, we may struggle to cope, feeling low, anxious or overwhelmed. Being offered support to explore our difficulties and worries in a safe, confidential and empathic environment, free from judgement can help us feel less isolated and find our way again to a more hopeful and fulfilling way of being. I believe that the roots of our personal strengths often stem from difficulties we have experienced and that together, we can find what might be most helpful to you.

Life can be challenging and overwhelming at times, making us feel lonely, sad, anxious and stressed. Our thoughts can become unclear, tangled up and sometimes we just cannot stop overthinking. We can even isolate ourselves and feel like there is no way out. Counselling can be a safe and non-judgmental form of relating that might bring a positive change, more clarity and a deeper understanding of our feelings, thoughts and the ways we behave.

Learning to accept the truth about needing help is sometimes the hardest part. It is however a process not an event. If you suffered chronic stress as a child or in the early years of adulthood, chances are, you amazingly created a lot of coping mechanisms that have helped you survive the situation. But what tends to happen with trauma is that we get stuck in those patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour and unless unpacked, they are impossible to change, even though they stopped serving you long time ago.

Good rapport with your Counsellor's the first step towards achieving change. My Counselling approach is different to anything my clients (both Adults & Children) have experienced before and it's because of this, they've felt at ease quickly and gained maximum benefit from their sessions. I've Counselled since 2019 and have a diverse range of additional skills that I integrate into my Counselling work. I work with Victims of Crime within Kent, as well as Children & Families who've been bereaved. I have over 10yrs experience working with Children & Young People, including those with additional needs, so my approach is inclusive.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
