I can help people who are experiencing all levels of distress and unhappiness. You may have feelings of dissatisfaction and a sense that you are not getting all that you want in your life. At the other end of the spectrum you may be finding that every day is a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming, feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger etc. I believe that all of us want to strive to feel happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense that we are leading meaningful, enjoyable lives - even when at times we feel at a loss as to how to achieve this.

Life doesn't really go as expected and finding the right support is key to move forward. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in combination with Systemic therapy allowing a tailored approach based on clients needs. CBT is aimed to support clients identifying the triggers and the dynamics that hide behind their difficulties, learning coping strategies to deal with them. Systemic therapy is often considered an approach to treat families and groups however, it also effectively apply to individuals.

I am a very experienced therapist, I have worked within the NHS and in Private Practice since 1994 and am a Senior Jungian Analyst, a Training Analyst, an Examiner and a Supervisor. I have a special interest in working with people experiencing relationship difficulties, difficulties in the workplace and those suffering from depression and anxiety. There is a wisdom in anxiety, any emotional crisis is a call for personal growth, for insight and to a new path through life. The belief that symptoms have meaning leads to a more positive approach and outcome, so that suffering is not in vain but the prelude to a more meaningful life.

At any time in our lives events can take over leaving us feeling anxious or depressed; or early negative experiences or trauma can replay in our mind, causing distress. My belief is that each individual is the person best placed to make the right decisions about themselves, however, there are times when we can lose sight of who we are and feel taken over by negative thoughts, feelings and responses that seem to work at odds with the life we want to lead. Counselling can help to make sense of these thoughts, feelings and responses and explore options for change by providing a safe space where you will be heard and respected.

I understand that life can be a struggle, with incredibly difficult and painful experiences encountered along the way. These can have a knock-on effect on how we cope day to day, view ourselves, respond to situations, how we are in relationships and how our mental health is. Things often get pushed to the side rather than dealt with, leaving us with an accumulation of unresolved issues, unfelt pain, and unacknowledged thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes making sense of your emotions and internal thought processes can be overwhelming and unfortunately starts to impact the way in which we cope with everyday life. Each person is unique and is affected differently by their experience. Maybe you are suffering from anxiety or depression, or are struggling with a bereavement or your past experiences are having an impact on your relationships. Together we can explore what challenges you are facing and find the answers to make the changes you want to make.

Each morning feels like a battle to go to work, to put on a happy face, when you want to stay at home in bed, or on the sofa because everything feels too much. Socialising is feeling draining and overwhelming rather than fun and something to look forward to. The laundry is piling up and you can’t find the energy to do it. You want to look after yourself more but caring about things like what to have for dinner feels overwhelming. Take a second to imagine mornings without battling with yourself to face the day, without faking smiles with everyone you know.

Counselling can be a wonderful experience and give you the opportunity to be open and honest in a safe and non judgemental space. However, I also understand that making that step to try counselling can be scary and daunting. I will offer you this safe space so that you feel able to talk about what is on your mind, whether that be past, present or future difficulties or concerns. In an often busy and loud world, we can often find it difficult to hear and connect with our own voice. Giving ourselves the space and time to connect with this voice can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves and our world around us.

How can I find a therapist in Kenilworth?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
