Since 2020, I have worked with a charity counselling survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
Life can be really tough sometimes. During difficult periods it can help to have someone to talk to, a different relationship to that of friends and family. I can offer a safe, confidential space offering a warm, empathic, supportive and non-judgemental environment for us to explore what’s going on for you. The trust and relationship that you have with your therapist is so important and will be the centre of our work together. I am an integrative counsellor trained in humanistic, behavioural and psychodynamic approaches. Working with these different modalities means that we can find the most suitable approach for you.

Feeling anxious, unsettled or sad can feel like a lonely place to be in our lives. I work with anxiety and depression and have further experience in working with addiction and abuse. Whether it's a challenging life event, relationship, job or a sense of ongoing unhappiness that feels hard to pin-point, I offer a calm and friendly space in which we can talk through your issues at your pace to explore what you might need. Rather than advise, I gently support you to find the way forward that feels right for you.

As a therapist, I work with clients to help them deal with issues such as depression, anxiety and invasive thoughts. I believe that society is quick to label people and say “whats wrong with you?” whereas, I believe we should be asking “What happened to you?” My clients have included survivors of childhood abuse, neglect, sexual assault and those recovering from traumatic-based experiences that have affected their current quality of life. I offer bereavement counselling to help people navigate their pain and find their own way to make sense of their loss. I recognise that, as each person is unique, so is their grieving process.

In life’s journey we experience many ups and downs with issues we find difficult to cope with. To have someone there who’s warm, supportive and non judgemental can help to make that journey a little easier. To be heard and understood can aid in the process of understanding our inner feelings and emotions and help us to find successful ways of managing the difficulties that life throws at us. I can offer a safe and confidential place for you to share, explore and work through those difficulties which may be causing you distress.

Hello, I hope this information gives you an idea of how I can help you. I believe if we are seen and heard and can express ourselves, we are well placed to enjoy good mental health, but this does not always come easily. I have experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, panic and confusion and when stressful life events impact our ability to cope. I can also support you if you have problems in relationships, pressures at work or school, loss of any kind, or coping with illness or pain. By working together we can explore your needs, deepen your self-awareness and ultimately progress towards healing and recovery.

Therapy is time set aside by you and the therapist to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Resilience isn’t about never falling over. It’s about knowing what do to when we do fall over and how we get back up again. I won’t judge you or criticise you.  I work with the uniqueness of each individual client and endeavour to offer a relationship in which you feel heard, accepted, safe and valued.  And collaboratively we will work to make positive changes in your life.

Therapy is a commitment between client & therapist, to be open to wanting things to be different.

Clients come to therapy seeking help with their anxiety provoking difficulties. Often they are applying old solutions to current events. Together we can identify what solutions no longer work and find new and more adaptive ways of solving their current challenges. The aim of therapy is to work with resolving a current challenge the client may have, but also look at past events if they become apparent during the therapy.

With specialist training in bereavement, domestic abuse, women's issues, anxiety & trauma, I understand the complexities surrounding these issues.
Sometimes in life we encounter difficult times and may struggle to make sense of things. Maybe you're experiencing increased levels of stress, anxiety, a sense of being lost, or a persistent low mood that goes beyond what you consider 'normal.' Perhaps you're seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, wanting insight into why you feel and act the way you do, or wish to rediscover a sense of vitality in your life. At times like this, talking to the right person can make a world of difference. I offer a confidential, compassionate and safe space in which to explore whatever issues you want to and help you reconnect with yourself.

I work with couples & individuals going through moderate distress, and some of the common issues that I work with are: anxiety, depression, Complex Trauma, relationship issues, survivors of domestic violence and post-traumatic stress.
The experience of coming for therapy is an opportunity for you to discover for the first (or subsequent) time in life that you can let go of all the judgements, the fear and hesitation, and begin to talk about what is bothering you. We become wounded within a sense of connectedness - in families, relationships, friendships and society - and paradoxically it is within a sense of connectedness that we can begin to heal. Healing the emotional brain takes time, but it is a creative and deeply fulfilling process that brings wonderful gifts with itself. I help my clients to begin to feel more balanced and calm within their mind and body.

Do you feel stuck in a difficult relationship? Are childhood experiences affecting your adult life? I understand how it can feel impossible to see a better future. Together we can work towards healing and recovery from abuse/trauma/ PTSD/complexPTSD so you can start to live life fully again. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment where we can work at your pace. I too have experienced abuse and so I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. My experience of therapy changed my life and as a result I retrained to become a counsellor.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
