I warmly welcome you to my page. You have taken a courageous first step towards improving your life satisfaction. I know that sometimes our sense of direction and ways of coping in life can get a little out of sync and even friends or loved ones seem absent or unable to help. Sometimes they're part of the problems we are dealing with. Whether you're seeking a simple improvement or healing from deep wounds, within yourself and/or with others, I can help.

Going to therapy can be hard; having to share inner conflicts and pain can feel exposing, yet liberating. My purpose is to create an empowering environment with you for these vulnerabilities to be safely shared. At EK Therapy, my aim is to reduce barriers of access for individuals and communities that feel like care systems have not fully understood their needs. Embedded in Sikh Ethos, I value honesty, non-judgement and universal truth. “EK” in Gurmukhi means “One.” Integration of the Soul, Mind and Body means we’re able to reach a more fulfilled state and way of living.

Therapy is a safe space to explore some of the confusing or difficult thoughts and feelings that arise throughout life's challenging phases. Major life transitions, relationship issues, bereavements, self-esteem, low mood or anxiety - these are all themes that are worthwhile addressing in therapy. Additionally therapy can be an investment into understanding yourself further; what causes you to think and act in certain ways as this is the gateway to facilitating meaningful and long-lasting change.

Hi there! I specialise in working with complex emotional needs using a range of evidence based therapies. My clients have often experienced a range of adverse experiences such as trauma, neglect or emotional abuse and may be experiencing depression, anxiety, low self worth, intense emotionality or difficulty in relationships. I see people for both longer term and time limited therapy. I work well with people who experience shame around their issues or experiences, who are anxious about therapy or who have found previous therapy unhelpful. I also provide supervision and training to other psychologists and institutions.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
