My therapy technique pulls from somatic, emotionally focused, attachment-based therapies.
We all go through challenges in life; that’s what makes us human. Perhaps you are looking for a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore challenging relationships. Maybe you find yourself repeating patterns in relationships that no longer work for you, or you find it difficult to forge meaningful connections. Are you noticing feelings of anxiety, frequent overthinking, or a poor self-image? Or it could be that you are experiencing persistent low mood and self-doubt. I bring 8 years of experience working as a therapist, collaborating with clients to connect and understand themselves better, feel more connected, confident, and authentic.

I lean on an eclectic approach to therapy that rests on body-based strategies like somatic experiencing, and integrate it with solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, mindfulness and art based strategies.
I have always had a passion for holding space for others as they confront pain and distress. I consider it my greatest privilege to emotionally support individuals as they navigate through the challenges of their life. In fact, my aim is to support you by helping you get in touch with what is hijacking you - emotional wounds, fears, blindspots, negative beliefs and thinking patterns. I am equipped to guide you through various concerns including anxiety, emotional distress, grief, trauma and loss and have worked with countless individuals, children and parents over the years.

Using tools from somatic and mindfulness practices we can work at making more space for you.
At times of overwhelm or crossroads, we can feel so lost or alone that any effort to reach out feels impossible. Let alone to do therapy which can take a look at things that cause pain, isolation, or despair. Yeah, sign me up for that asap.?! But instability may interfere more than is bearable and relationships, work and self-care can seem unmanageable. We all need a place for ourselves at times like this. A safe place to decompress, access our experience and voice, and sift through what we've been going through. Growth and change can arise from places we left unattended, neglected or misunderstood for a long time.

I use an array of psychotherapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS, Level 3), psychodynamic and mindfulness-based, as well as drawing on somatic approaches.
My belief is that people come to therapy to have an experience that is markedly different from what they encounter in their daily life. My training and experience allow me to have the tools to provide an opportunity for that different experience, whether it is getting relief from anxiety, finding grace and gratitude in the midst of grief, or gaining clarity and calm in a situation of overwhelm and confusion. We work collaboratively and creatively to uncover the root causes of your distress or dissatisfaction, and address them without re-traumatization. Our work together is safe, deep, transformative, and often spontaneously joyous.

I use multimodal strategies such as drawing, visualization, somatic/embodied experiencing, sensory-based grounding to help facilitate access to emotion, memory, and intuition that may be hidden from the client’s conscious view in a safe and manageable way.
Welcome. I’m happy you’re here because it means you believe things can get better, and that means you have hope. Hope is a great starting point. All of us woke up in this place called life, and none of us got a manual, let me help you make the most of it. I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and welcoming atmosphere where your bravery and vulnerability are met with a non-judgmental and curious attitude that allows for new insights and self-awareness to surface. I love walking alongside my client’s on their journey to build resilience, tenacity and self-leadership.

If you’re anything like the people I typically work with, you might struggle to put yourself first, experience anxiety in your close relationships, and fear what others think of you. You might be an overachiever, struggle with perfectionism, and feel not good enough, in general. Perhaps you have had experiences that taught you it was best to ignore your feelings rather than express them. Many people who struggle with this often find themselves caught between their own needs and the desires of others, feeling a profound sense of obligation that can be overwhelming.

I bring a gentle, curious and attuned approach to my work with individuals, families and couples. Together, we will examine patterns in your life, identify and expand your capacity to cope with the challenges you experience and deepen your relationship with self and others. I view therapy as taking a course on oneself and an opportunity to evolve. My work is often focused on supporting clients to understand, experience and tolerate emotions and to shift out of behavours, thoughts and coping that are no longer serving them.

I work with adults in individual therapy. I can help bring awareness to the specific obstacles that may be preventing you from living a more fulfilling life. Together, we can make shifts in your relationship with yourself, others, and the world around you that will support your goals. I will provide you with both a nurturing environment and the necessary tools for you to explore what's possible and move beyond what's currently holding you back from continued growth. Together, we’ll work through internal and external barriers so that you can develop strong coping mechanisms and skills that you can rely on.

I often meet people who notice they are repeating relationship patterns and behaviours, and they aren't sure why. Sometimes, you may remember how these strategies were protective and kept you safe in the past, or you may not. I support the people I work with to sense, with compassion, how powerful and ingenious these strategies are. Sometimes when we meet, you've come to a place of knowing that these same protective strategies aren't as effective as they used to be, and you're wondering why or are looking to change. We come to decide in therapy what to hold tight to and what to set aside for now.

There are moments in our lives where we feel stuck or moments of crisis where we have done things that we don't feel ok about. We may be living with persistent fears, thoughts, and behaviours that frighten us, or no longer align with who we are. We may experience difficulties in our relationships or trouble managing the world. We may suffer from current experiences of harm and violence, the wounds from our past, or repeating patterns and behaviours that no longer serve us. In these moments, it’s important to have a space to process our fears, pain, and our hopes while building skills, self-compassion, and a vision for ourselves.

I came to Gestalt Psychotherapy after a decade of teaching yoga and meditation workshops in Canada, Greece, Mexico and Nicaragua. I noticed that wisdom practices (such as meditation, yoga, breath-work, and reflection) lead people to face vulnerability and perhaps even pain inside their minds, hearts and bodies. Many people have insights about themselves, but they believe they can mentally figure it out on their own. We are not meant to do all the processing on our own. The therapeutic relationship allows us the support of a compassionate and trained witness so we can explore what is present.

When did becoming an adult get so tough? Do you ever feel like you woke up one day, and even though you followed all the steps you were supposed to, you continue to feel overwhelmed with anxieties about your life and the future? Did pressures from your family and friends lead you into a career path that you don’t love or a relationship that is unfulfilling, and now you’re wondering how to get your life back? I understand what it is like to reach a certain stage in life and feel misguided, unsupported, and unsure of yourself.

I work with adults and couples to help them move towards a state of continued growth, compassion, and self-awareness in a way that is collaborative, strengths-based, and empowering. I believe in creating a client-therapist relationship that fosters authenticity, support, and space for both acceptance, and for change. This can begin in our very first session. Together, we can begin to tease apart the adaptive approaches to dealing with and moving through life you've grown accustomed to, and begin to decipher which of these patterns are serving you, and which you may be interested in moving beyond.

I've been both the client and the therapist, and I believe strongly in the power of the therapeutic connection. It is an hour just for you; a space to find your voice, understand yourself, get out of your own way. This is what I offer my clients - a relationship where we work together in exploring what is going on for you, take the time to develop trust and tolerance for challenge, and where *everything* is open for discussion. My style is both direct and playful, curious and open-minded. I love working with clients who are ready for change, even if they don't know exactly what that might look like.

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
