I work with clients holistically, recognizing that the things we struggle with are only one aspect of ourselves, giving consideration to our needs--spiritual, emotional, physical, cognitive, relational--and our strengths.
***NOW ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR PHONE/VIDEO*** It’s a privilege and honour to be doing this work, and to walk alongside clients on their respective healing journeys. I believe that everyone is the expert of their own lives and life experiences. By working collaboratively and through meaning-making, I aim to support clients in connecting with their needs, dreams, hopes, as well as to the answers I believe each person has inside them. My approach is trauma-informed, non-directive, strength-based, and client-centered. Healing, the discovery of possibilities, one’s resilience, and one's gifts can all be part of the therapy process.

Every individual I have the opportunity to meet carries with them a collection of unique experiences, thoughts, beliefs, values and goals. As humans, we all have periods in our lives when we think, “things are not how they should or ought to be” and this may lead us to a place where we may not be feeling like ourselves. I genuinely believe that you, as a client, are the expert at your own life, but sometimes, even experts can use a little fine tuning- this is one of the functions of therapy! I promise to provide you with the highest quality service that it tailored to your specific needs.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, stressed and disconnected in our world today. The patterns that we have built throughout our lives can keep us “stuck”. Through the exploration of these patterns we can find balance, reconnect with ourselves and others while creating more positive and healthy patterns. It is through this understanding that we can shape and reintegrate new approaches, perceptions and behaviours better suited to our needs and goals.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” - Carl Rogers I believe that the first step in moving towards the life you want is to accept yourself and your position as they are. This is not a request to settle, but rather, an invitation to look at the cards you hold. Only after accepting how things are can your next steps be determined. I can provide the space for you to express how difficult things are, while the healing relationship we build together will serve as the vehicle driving change. Seeking support is not easy, and you are stronger than you think by simply taking this first step.

I have 24 years of experience. Clients work with me because they have a goal they want to reach, a pattern they wish to change, a relationship to discuss, or something to heal from the past. My role is to guide you on a transformative journey with unwavering support & provide powerful tools to help you feel better. During treatment, clients learn to trust themselves more & feel less anxious, sad, reactive, or self-critical. Listening to your feelings, thoughts, body, and needs is a skill. When this is personal practice, confidence increases, decision-making is easier, boundaries are clearer, & relationships are less stressful.

I believe that we all possess resilience to overcome life's challenges. Therapy is one way in which we can raise our awareness of our untapped strengths. I have studied psychology and have worked in healthcare for over 25 years. First, as an Occupational Therapist and then as an Executive in healthcare organizations. I completed my Master's degree in Rehabilitation Medicine and investigated processes that assist individuals to overcome pain and return back to function. Later, in my academic career, I earned a PhD in the field of organizational behaviour and examined how people, teams, and work environments support one another.

Psychodynamic therapy can give way to a new beginning in one’s daily life. It can help a person overcome anxiety emerging from their internalized conflicts, emotional deficits, traumas, or other challenges. Play therapy is a healing experience for a child and a way to express and mentally metabolize worries and emotional difficulties. It can help to change some of the characterological patterns of a child.

Contact me about my MSW student rate of $80/session… Feeling secure within ourselves is our birthright, but it’s often not what our experience tells us. Perhaps you find it difficult to trust others, or connecting in a meaningful, consistent way. You might be easily anxious, self-doubting and ruminating, frequently wondering how you’re being perceived. Or you find yourself distant, closed off, but craving safe connection. As a therapist for the past 9 years, I collaborate with reflective adults as they teach their nervous system new ways to feel embodied safety, so they can thrive with greater assurance, confidence and authenticity.

Do you find yourself missing out on things because of anxiety and self-doubt? In today’s world of social media, comparison, and 24/7 news updates it’s understandable that as humans we’re feeling more overwhelmed, doubtful and on-edge than ever. Our brains are designed to keep us safe, not happy, and therefore, it’s understandable that anxiety gets the best of us sometimes! With the proper knowledge and tools, we can learn to better understand our anxious brain and develop a healthier relationship with anxiety and worry that will allow us to live a full and meaningful life.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
