I'm typically relaxed and conversational and love having conversations that get to the heart of the matter. You could say I specialize in getting people "unstuck" from their current way of thinking about and dealing with issues, through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and strategies. I love asking thoughtful questions and re-framing your situation so you can approach it in ways you haven't considered before. We then create a practical plan that gets to the root of issues and ensures you have what you need to succeed.

NO-WAIT list- ADHD, Men's Issues, Couples, Stress/Anxiety/Depression- You feel stuck, hopeless, and unsure about where to turn but just know that you want to start feeling better. Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, ADHD or motivation issues and this is complicating seeking help. Or as a man, you've been feeling bad for quite a while but society tells you to "toughen up" and get through it on your own. Your self-worth has taken a hit and feel lost. Whatever it is you're struggling with, I'd be honoured to help you navigate this tough time and work towards creating a more fulfilling, empowered life.

You can expect a caring environment, where we use therapies such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Internal Family Systems to help you live a more enriching and rewarding life.
Our feelings, thoughts and actions can have a significant impact on our ability to connect with others, achieve our goals and engage in the parts of life we find meaningful. These changes in ourselves can often be explained by challenging experiences or turbulent relationships, which leave us feeling depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. Together, we'll work to create a safe environment where you feel empowered to discuss, process, and problem solve concerns surrounding relationships, self-esteem, trauma, identity, and other topics.

My strengths lie in CBT, DBT, and Trauma-informed therapy.
If you are struggling with depression or anxiety, whether it stems from personal or professional reasons or both, I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help and talk about these issues. I understand how important confidentiality and trust are within relationships and the burden of responsibilities or duties. Community Hope Counseling provides a judgment-free safe space for our clients. If you are looking for a down-to-earth counsellor, then you are at the right place.

My early work was grounded in modes of therapy, such as cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing.
When you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or that you have strayed off your life path, it can be hard to know what to do. Modern society today is often more isolated, which means more time alone with your thoughts, feelings, and more distance to those you are meant to feel closest within your lives. This can lead to dependence on distraction, addiction, or patterns of behaviour that you know take you away from who you are at your core.

I also enjoy helping men who are trying to find their place in the world and themselves.

In my work I incorporate multiple approaches including CBT, DBT, acceptance and commitment approaches and mindfulness, amongst others, to offer sessions that are uniquely attuned to each individual client.
Deciding to see a therapist can be a big, albeit scary step. My role is to help make this experience as smooth, safe and comfortable as possible. Through my counselling work, I provide a supportive and encouraging environment where clients can express themselves and their goals in a non-judgemental way. No question is stupid, no emotion invalid, no goal unworthy. I envision therapy like a road trip – You're in the driver’s seat driving the car, and I’m in the passenger seat with the map helping you find your way. Let’s figure it out together.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
