I have a background in the education system, child welfare, settlement services with immigrants and refugees and survivors of sexual abuse.
I believe seeking supports through counselling is an act of bravery and courage and as such I consider it an honour for anyone to confide in me their struggles, hopes and aspirations. My intention is to simply be human with individuals and help guide them along their journey. Therapy is not a fix it all solution, it takes time, practice and most importantly a genuine human connection.

I believe that we all have the capacity for happiness and that certain valid things in life get in the way of us achieving it. That might be past hurts, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, the state of the world, and/or systems of oppression. For some people it could be a sense that things are "good enough" just as they are, or even a fear of hoping for better. These experiences can prevent us from forming the healthy relationships we want, engaging in fulfilling careers or activities, or even identifying what we truly want out of life. Therapy can be a collaborative place to help sort some of these concerns out.

I am a Jungian Psychoanalyst offering Jungian Analysis to individuals who want a deeper understanding of themselves. For many reasons, these persons feel emotionally in pain, conflicted or unbalanced in their inner and/or outer life and would benefit from exploring the deep rooted causes of relationship problems and unproductive emotional patterns. The direction of therapy is to look to the past and to the unconscious determinants of behaviour but also to open to the creative and positive movements of the psyche that offer a way forward even in the face of the greatest difficulties or trauma.

Accepting new clients! Perhaps you have tried talk therapy and it helped with some things but in certain areas, you find it difficult to make changes & are looking for a new approach. You may find that people-pleasing and perfectionism holds you back. You find you start out strong by building new habits and then quickly lose momentum. You may be finding yourself more anxious than usual despite your best attempts at maintaining a positive outlook. You may also be experiencing overwhelm, imposter syndrome, anxiety, phobias, or depression. I also have a special interest in supporting women through pregnancy loss, infertility & burnout.

Are you feeling stuck in an older version of yourself that you know is ready to change? Do you live with the feeling that there's a truer version of "you" that's dying to come out? Are you held back by complicated relationships from your past, that seem to keep you in a holding pattern? Are you a couple stuck in a pattern that keeps you apart? Often we hit a place where we know we are ready for a transition, but we're just not sure what to do next. That's when therapy can be the most powerful. It's my greatest privilege to experience real connection with folks who are journeying towards a more meaningful, fulfilled, authentic life.

It is a respectful and comprehensive approach that is rooted in a strong therapeutic relationship.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do your thoughts keep racing from one thing to another? Do you find you are excellent at taking care of everyone else but keep neglecting yourself? I would like to help. I am passionate about helping people to move past the "shoulds" and move towards creating the kind of life they want to live. Most of the time when we are distressed we are worrying either too much about the past or the future, or are overly preoccupied by what we imagine other people are thinking about us.

Being a person can be confusing. Sometimes we have a clear sense of what is wrong or needs to change, but we don't know how to get there. Other times we feel completely at sea, not even knowing how to name what we are feeling or what we want. There is no right way to approach this work: bring your self and we can work together to sort out the rest. Of course, we do not exist in a vacuum. Our identities, relationships, cultures and beliefs are a part of who we are and impact our experiences. Let's explore who you are, your challenges, what you feel, and what you need to help you to navigate life in a way that feels important to you.

I love supporting individuals experiencing symptoms from trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, codependency, and low self-worth/self-esteem. We will explore how the previous experiences you've encountered and the relationships you have had in your life impact the way we view ourselves and interact with the world around us. I like to use a variety of tools to aid in symptom management while also working with the root cause. My practice is trauma-informed and attachment-focused.

You know how sometimes in life we feel like we should just know how to deal? Well I have extensive experience working with people who have felt that way, and who feel like they are struggling sometimes just to make it through their days. I work with issues that are sometimes too difficult to talk about such as: professional burnout, vicarious trauma/compassion fatigue, caregiver burnout, relationship conflict that impacts personal and professional well-being, even suicidal thoughts. I am able to help to understand, and most importantly, help guide and support change in functioning and behaviour.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
