I help stressed out postpartum moms become the mother they want to be, and I help women who have gone through sexual abuse regain confidence and get their life back. The birth of your baby didn't go as planned and you feel like you're already failing at motherhood. You feel intense pressure to be the best mother, but the stress of the postpartum period is too much. Your brain keeps showing you this horror movie about the abuse and you can't take it anymore. You are not alone. There is help, I provide bilingual therapy for postpartum moms and women who were sexually abused in Ontario (English and French).

My specialties include: trauma and PTSD, grief, anger management, sexual addiction, porn addiction, anxiety, ADHD, career guidance, addiction, substance use, infidelity, depression, coping skills, sexual abuse , chronic pain, and life transitions.
Stuck? Lost? Broken? Disconnected? Powerless? Hopeless? Many men wait too long to seek help for the challenges they face. You may not feel safe talking with others, particularly if you have experienced trauma, abuse, anxiety, addition, grief, or shame. Often, even those they are closest to you may understand or know the depth of your pain. You may feel that you are burdening others with your problems, and may have tried to solve your issues on your own, often leading deeper struggles and, at times, greater loss and pain. Tired of suffering? Book a free 20-minute consultation at firststepmenstherapy.com!

I work with individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, sexual assault , intimate partner violence, relationship issues, stress, and life transitions.
Do you feel you may not be living as the best version of yourself? Do you feel haunted by your past? Struggling to move forward? As humans, we have an innate need to feel seen, heard, validated, and safe. I chose a career that allows me to meet these needs for people like you. Seeking therapy is a step towards self-awareness and healing. The differences between our rational and emotional brain can make us feel disconnected and recognizing our internal dualities can be helpful. Reconnecting with our inner child, processing our grief, and holding space for our emotions can be liberating and empowering, as well as immensely healing.

It’s challenging to figure out who to choose when you need to talk to somebody. Where is the therapist of the “bad break up”? Or, relationship breakdown, even if it is with yourself. You want to talk with someone who’s training and experience reflects your struggle, of course. Working in psychiatry, both in hospital and community crisis work, (military, police, therapists, teachers) victims of infidelity, domestic and sexual abuse , I have seen trauma. If you are ready, take heart, change can happen. Gift therapy time to yourself or a loved one. It's free to meet me. FergusCounselling.ca/ola/services/meet-greet

Not accepting new clients. Trauma, anxiety and depression can leave you feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Therapy can offer you a better way forward. My specialty is working with adults who are survivors of childhood abuse, trauma or neglect. I help my clients live more in the present that they want, rather than focus on fears from the past or worries about the future. As an experienced therapist, I've seen that when people can safely address the traumas in their life, they reduce their anxiety, depression, difficulty with relationships and trust, low self-esteem and overwhelming emotions, among other things.

I am a Jungian Psychoanalyst offering Jungian Analysis to individuals who want a deeper understanding of themselves. For many reasons, these persons feel emotionally in pain, conflicted or unbalanced in their inner and/or outer life and would benefit from exploring the deep rooted causes of relationship problems and unproductive emotional patterns. The direction of therapy is to look to the past and to the unconscious determinants of behaviour but also to open to the creative and positive movements of the psyche that offer a way forward even in the face of the greatest difficulties or trauma.

Find support for anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, self esteem issues, perfectionism, abuse, grief, or simply unpacking negative life experiences or big transitions. In session I use artmaking as the tool for expression in conjunction with psychotherapy. Don’t worry you need not be creative or artistic to take part because art therapy is about about free expression using art materials, not making a masterpiece. Art therapy helps when words fail. If you don’t know where to begin, don’t worry we will be with you every step of the way.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
