We will work to understand your childhood attachment and family dynamics, values, beliefs and patterns in your life I am aware how cultural context exits in my clients life.
My passion is to help people regain their inner peace and happiness to live a pleasurable fulfilled life. Life is full of ups, downs and challenges that we are often not prepared for. It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, but the what matters comes from how many times you get up. I believe the greatest accomplishment is who you become while picking yourself back up. Each new day gives you a fresh start to get back on track and to have the courage to rebuild yourself the way you desire. In therapy we would work collaboratively to address your needs and to determine how best to meet these needs.

I invite you to have a look at our website to get an idea of what Evans Family Counselling & Psychotherapy offers, and then to take the first step by reaching out to contact us by email.
Maybe you've tried this before. You've been to therapy and you've talked about your issues but you don't really feel like you've healed your issues. Or maybe you've gotten to the point in therapy where you feel stuck. I get it. Because I've been there. The anxiety and self doubt. Drinking/eating/scrolling too much. Constantly running to attain what we think we're supposed to chase after. Wondering why some of our reactions and behaviours happen. Hating some aspects of ourselves and really not showing up in a way that we know we can. And seeking answers to all of this and just not finding it in therapy.

Sometimes life can be difficult and these challenges can cause a sense of suffering in ourselves and those we care about. It can all feel overwhelming and exhausting, making it difficult to know what to do or where to turn for help. It takes courage to reach out for support so that you don’t have to suffer alone. Counselling can provide the opportunity to learn to share and process one’s struggles in a safe and non-judgemental space. Learning how to foster self-directed kindness and self-compassion can help nurture an individual’s personal growth and resilience.

We all have within us a profound sense of knowing that helps us to live the life we ought to be living. When our lives are not aligning with this inner wisdom, we experience isolation, depression, and feel unfulfilled, stuck, and bored. We find ourselves in old repetitive patterns, jobs, and relationships that are no longer serving us. I can help you address these issues and guide you to explore the deepest parts of your self so that you can begin to live your authentic life.

Prioritizing yourself can be so tough. Between caring for our families, work commitments, and the daily grind of life - it can be too easy to let our own self care fall to the wayside. This can leave us feeling overwhelmed and stuck, spending our time scrolling mindlessly on social media instead of doing the things that are most important to us. I work with parents to help them reconnect with themselves, get unstuck from tricky thoughts that get in the way, and move towards what's most important to them. You are worthy of taking this time for yourself, and you don't have to navigate it alone!

You’re probably feeling so alone and hopeless right now. The relationship you once looked to for strength and joy is beginning to feel like a source of pain and disconnection. You feel like you have tried everything that you know to make your relationship better. You’ve tried talking about your issues but somehow always end up spiraling into a fight- leaving you feeling frustrated, disconnected and more hurt each time. You worry about where your relationship is headed if something doesn’t change. I want you to know you are in the right place. You can transform your disconnection and negative communication patterns into connection.

I’m passionate about removing stigma about mental health challenges as I've personally experienced it, and have supported family and friends with it.
I help people with stress, trauma, depression, emotional pain and anxiety, and couples/families stuck in negative patterns and dissatisfied with their relationships. Individuals I work with are often hard on themselves and struggle to find balance between what they think they should be and their own needs and longings. I strive to help them get clear about what matters, what gets in the way of the life they want and to begin dealing with these obstacles. Couples/families I work with know they want something different in their relationships. I offer support during challenging conversations to increase understanding and allow change.

***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: IN-PERSON & PHONE/VIDEO*** We believe that there is good in every person, and hope in every situation. We have helped individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and connect. As relational therapists, we appreciate the impact that our relationships have on our well-being. We do not see clients as having something wrong with their minds that necessarily needs to be fixed. Rather, we see our clients as unique individuals, each with their own stories and perspectives, embedded in important relationships and contexts that impact them. We see strengths and we see hope, even when it feels like there is none.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
