We all have seemingly insurmountable personal struggles at times. If you are troubled and not coping well on your own, you may benefit from consulting with a registered psychologist. Problems such as depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, past traumatic events, the death of a loved one, workplace stress and relationship difficulties can all be helped through pyschotherapy. Having an experienced pyschologist with whom to consult breaks the isolation you may be currently feeling and can provide you with the perspective and tools to help you move your life forward in a direction and that feels right to you.

Are you feeling burnt out or stressed? Do you find yourself feeling anxious and worrying all the time? Have you survived a traumatic situation? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we will work together in psychotherapy to help you figure out what's going on, feel better, and take back control of your life. I have a wealth of experience with a range of emotional issues including: grief/loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.
Are you trying to cope with events or issues that have begun to interfere with your life or your relationships? Perhaps something painful or difficult has occurred to bring you to the point of seeking help, or a number of things have been building up, getting to the point where you are carrying a burden you can no longer ignore. Making the decision to seek help is one that takes great personal courage. It is also an important step on the path to getting reconnected to your "self".

You're not alone in this journey. I work with many adults who grapple with anxiety, depression, or feelings of 'not good enough.' Often, they're navigating major life changes and transitions, seeking clarity and understanding amidst the chaos. It's normal to lean on support to make sense of what's happening both internally and externally. As I always say, "We are not meant to do it alone." Together, we can explore, and untangle your thoughts & emotions. My approach is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. I believe in holistic therapy, considering each unique individual within their surrounding environment.

I offer a process that is deep inner work to address underlying issues that create eating disorders, depression, and anxiety.
Your symptoms are signs, alerting you of a deeper issue and pointing you inward. Awareness work brings your repressed and unconscious parts into your consciousness so you can work on healing them. Distracting or avoiding perpetuates symptoms like eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. You can learn to quiet your thoughts, connect to your center, and stay present with emotions without feeling overwhelmed. You can know your self outside of your conditioning, stay calm during stress, listen to your intuition, let go of control, and live a life that is aligned with your real values. This is the basis for true healing.

The key to healing trauma, anxiety, depression is returning to the authentic Self, of who you truly are – lovable & whole.
Imagine unleashing the true version of your 'Self' & knowing the treasures you have inside you! Sometimes we get stuck thinking about the past and it's exhausting, replaying what happened and wishing you could forget and move on. If you have a history of trauma, a painful childhood, or have suffered from anxiety/depression, OCD, grief, or phobias, then this is even more true of you. Every time you let go off old perspectives, conditioning & hurt you allow yourself to heal & create a new future because every breath is a chance to be reborn. Allow yourself to find joy in the ordinary, evolve, liberate & reclaim your 'Self'! Live It...

I also work with individuals who find themselves in crises or major life transitions and are feeling lost, anxious or depressed.
Life can be challenging. When something throws us for a loop, our usual coping strategies may not be enough and we may find ourselves feeling lost, afraid or unsure of what to do and how to manage. If you are experiencing a crisis or major life transition such as job loss, diagnosis of illness or a chronic health condition, marital or relationship crises (i.e., infidelity, abuse, separation), psychotherapy and clinical counselling can help you regain your bearings and cultivate novel coping strategies to get you back on your feet.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
