Making sense of our lives is no easy task. Each of us finds themselves at the centre of a story that has never been lived by anyone else before them. Our time together will highlight the factors that make your story so unique, and how this shapes the dynamics of your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. This insight will help us understand who you are, who you want to become, and how we can improve your situation.

We all experience pain and blockages that get our attention and tell us that something is wrong. Seeking counselling is a natural, healthy way to take action and heal ourselves. Sometime life's challenges can be an opportunity to grow and get to know ourselves better. I work with individuals, couples and families. I enjoy working with adolescents and see all ages in my practice.

The key to mental well-being and healing is to feel whatever presents itself without trying to change it. To seek others who can support you by listening without judging, without trying to fix you, without giving you advice and without minimizing your experience. Warm, compassionate, and knowledgeable, I'm here to walk beside you, to support you on your path. I offer a space for you to feel seen and heard. Together we can explore patterns in your relationships and allow hidden aspects to emerge and support your growth. We play in the unknown and find new and creative ways to work through issues.

Our assessment and therapy services are conducted by an experienced team of clinicians who joined Fleming Vigna Balmer after gaining many years of valuable experience in the public sector; for example, working in hospitals, universities, rehabilitation centres, social service agencies, and community-based clinics. As a team, we are able to offer a rich, experience-based range of clinical services. All of our clinicians are psychologists or psychological associates registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. This means we are independent practitioners licenced to assess, diagnose, and treat the full range of psychological disorders ranging from problems in living to serious mental health issues. In addition, we are consulting psychologists to the pilot recruitment programmes of a number of airlines including Air Canada, Jazz Aviation LP, and Sky Regional Airlines. At Fleming Vigna Balmer services are provided in English, French, Italian, Vietnamese, and Afrikaans.

It takes courage to ask for help! So you have been grappling with depression, anxiety, loneliness, or emptiness. Our modern world does not help us understand what it means to be human. We become overwhelmed by relationship challenges and moral dilemmas, feeling lost and lacking meaning. Most of my clients (including couples) are interested in exploring the more profound questions in life. I can offer you a neutral, receptive space to explore your consciousness and the felt-sense experience in your body using a trauma-informed and whole-person approach. The implications of trauma are immense: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. I develop a strong therapeutic relationship with clients by building real and authentic connections, listening without judgment, accepting people as they are, and making space for new beginnings. With years of experience in social services, I am passionate about journeying alongside you, as you discover new paths moving forward.

Hi! I’m Denise, and my approach to counselling comes from a place of compassion and life experience. I know how difficult it is to open up to others, but sometimes, we just can’t navigate the hard parts of life alone, and I would be honoured to work with you through your most challenging times. For example, experiencing a death or loss, separation, and divorce can be gut-wrenching, I know because I've been there. Embarking on an assisted reproduction journey, including IVF, can be a long and winding road. No matter what you are going through, together, we will get you through the ups and downs and everything in between.

How can I find a therapist in L5G?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
