Humanistic Therapists in V6E
I am rooted in humanistic therapies and informed by current research.
I offer counselling to self-identifying women, men, and folks who are gender non-conforming. I seek to provide a space of authenticity, safety and groundedness where clients feel safe to explore their inner experiences. I take a compassionate, authentic and non-judgmental approach when working with clients. I believe each person has the capability to heal and warrants having someone with them on the journey through the exploration and discovery of their authentic self.

Sometimes life events make us feel as if we are inside a tornado or stuck in a fog. I’ve been there myself, I know how it feels. It caused me to lose touch with my true self and cross paths with anxiety & depression decades ago. Finding my way back to myself was so impactful that I left a solid career in corporate to become a Registered Counsellor. If you find yourself lost in that fog battling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, relationships or disconnected from your true self, I am here to help you clear the way so you can reclaim your true self again, mind, body & soul. :)

The people I work with are creative, caring individuals who feel stuck or out of sync with their desired path. Sometimes they feel disengaged from what is important to them. They are motivated for change and open to trying new approaches, seeking a compassionate, understanding therapist to help them navigate their challenges. With my registration in BC and Alberta, I offer virtual sessions throughout Western Canada. I aim to empower clients to achieve their goals and align their lives with their core values.

I work with people desiring stronger, deeper and more fulfilling relationships with themselves and with other people. If you're struggling to feel well and to live the life you want, you may feel cut off from your core sense of self. You may have faced a rupture in trust, experienced deep loss, or not had the care you needed when you needed it most. You may find yourself locked in unhelpful cycles, caught in upsetting memories from the past, or turning to mindless distractions or harmful comforts. You may long to understand your own inner world more completely, or to engage life in a way that feels congruent with who you are.

Welcome! I believe in bringing the body into therapy. I strive to bring openness, curiosity, and compassion to my work with adults and couples. My work focuses on the relationship between the body and mental health, specifically chronic illness, life-limiting illness, and substance use. I also work with people living with anxiety and depression, as well as those navigating life transitions. I worked for several years in the cancer clinic at the Jewish General Hospital (Montreal) before returning to school to study the relationship between exercise and mental health.

Therapy could be the key to open your compassionate process of accepting yourself and expanding your mental and heartfelt capacities. Moving at your pace and preference, we explore and identify your emotional, mental and relationship patterns that may seem bewildering or intense now, but with an open and patient perspective, I give you the space to validate, reframe and shift those patterns that no longer serve you. Ultimately, your willingness to meet any challenge or aspiration is a profound act of self-reflection rooted in courage that ripples out into how you live, relate and create in the world.

I recognize the vulnerability it takes to connect with someone new about the challenges you’ve been facing. As a queer and non-binary counsellor, I believe in the power of experiencing relationships which unconditionally affirm our authentic selves. In our work together, I strive to harness moments of safety in which your connection to self can emerge, so that a new experience of healing and wholeness can take root. My hope is that this collaborative process will open portals of possibility for you, and new ways of being in the world.

Hello! I'm Meredith MacKenzie and I help women who feel out of control with food, tired of swinging from dieting to binge eating, leading to feel shame about their eating. You know the ins and outs of "healthy eating" but it just doesn't seem to work, and you blame yourself. You want freedom from food, to be able to eat what you love without overeating, and have a better relationship with your body. You want to be more attuned to your hunger and fullness cues and at peace with food, so you can more fully participate in your life without your feelings about your body or emotional eating looming over you. You deserve more.

How does humanistic therapy work?
One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.
Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?
Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.
How long does humanistic therapy last?
The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is humanistic therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
