I am trained to address concerns including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, OCD, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, significant life changes, marital and couples counselling, substance use and addictions, grief and loss, as well as gender, sexuality, and queer issues.
I work with adults and couples to help them move towards a state of continued growth, compassion, and self-awareness in a way that is collaborative, strengths-based, and empowering. I believe in creating a client-therapist relationship that fosters authenticity, support, and space for both acceptance, and for change. This can begin in our very first session. Together, we can begin to tease apart the adaptive approaches to dealing with and moving through life you've grown accustomed to, and begin to decipher which of these patterns are serving you, and which you may be interested in moving beyond.

My priority is to develop a therapeutic and non-judgmental relationship with all my clients. In my experience validating and reassuring clients helps to normalize their experiences and feelings. I am client-centered and focus on my client's strengths; starting where the client is at. "I believe that each person has a unique story and perspective in which they bring to both relationships and to managing life stressors. Ultimately, we will work together so that you feel empowered to identify meaningful goals for positive change.”

I bring a gentle, curious and attuned approach to my work with individuals, families and couples. Together, we will examine patterns in your life, identify and expand your capacity to cope with the challenges you experience and deepen your relationship with self and others. I view therapy as taking a course on oneself and an opportunity to evolve. My work is often focused on supporting clients to understand, experience and tolerate emotions and to shift out of behavours, thoughts and coping that are no longer serving them.

Are you burnt out? Feeling stuck? Been through something difficult that feels hard to get over? I’ll help you heal from the past, get unstuck, and move forward into a flourishing future that you design. I’ll help you tap into your own intuitive wisdom and capacity to heal. We can sort through the overwhelming stuff, make sense of the confusing stuff, and learn how to process emotions. If we need to go deeper and work through some old hurts, we can do that too. You may be dealing with sensitive issues that you feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk about. We can go there, together. You'll find me relatable, honest, and easy to talk to.

When you've exhausted your best ideas only to find yourself no further along, looking for competent help makes sense. Every kind of problem carries important information: information about what feels wrong, of course, but also about what might feel right. That's obvious when we see a picture hanging crooked on a wall; it's less straightforward when we can't seem to right ourselves.

I believe that challenges can be beautiful, albeit deeply painful, opportunities to create a life you feel inspired to live There is hope in every situation, and often life’s greatest lessons are learned during its biggest obstacles. Life's not always easy. Hardships and transitions can blindside you and leave you feeling like you’re just trying to survive, and on autopilot. And then the questions come: Who am I? How did I get here? The life you have doesn’t reflect the one you imagined. While we can not change the past, we can choose to create meaning in our experiences, and determine how its legacy comes forward with us.

In my work, I'm committed to honoring my clients with compassion, presence and integrity. My sessions often include parts work (IFS), mindfulness-based approaches, Gestalt, and encouraging the use of awareness as a powerful and curative ally. When we become aware of our patterns and limiting beliefs we can then willingly, courageously choose differently and embrace another way of being. My hope is that I may be of service and provide guidance as this process ushers you to a place of healing and transformation.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
