In our sessions, I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions, so we can create meaningful change together. While counseling can be challenging, I believe it should also include humour, hope, and comfort, making it a place where you can truly learn and grow. Many of my clients seek support during life transitions or when grappling with an inner critic and overwhelming emotions. I specialize in helping with anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, parenting and family dynamics, relationship issues, grief and loss, trauma, psychedelic integration, and career concerns.

We are not expected to heal from our physical wounds without professional care, psychological wounds are no different. Psychotherapy is a culture-based therapy effort that requires deep understanding between therapist and clients. As a result, commonality in language, components of social perception, political, and historical backgrounds enhance the outcome of psychotherapy.

Grief is our natural human response to loss, but it can feel so disruptive and distressing. Loss and grief can challenge our sense of self and safety, beliefs, and worldview. It can affect us emotionally, physically, psychologically, relationally, and spiritually. It’s both a universal human experience yet deeply personal and unique – sometimes lonely and not well understood by others. If you’re going through grief after loss and wondering how to put your life back together or feel like yourself, you’re not alone. It's my passion to walk alongside people experiencing grief.

A Registered Psychologist in Vancouver since 1980, I am passionate about exploring the subconscious mind, assisting my clients to clarify and accomplish their goals, personal and professional. My ideal client has some knowledge of themselves and is deeply motivated to change. Patterns that respond very well to hypnotherapy include smoking, emotional eating, addictions, phobias and insomnia. Hypnotherapy can clear sabotages to success, blocks to self esteem, blocks to creativity, procrastination, fear of public speaking, and help athletes achieve optimal sports performance. Relationships: I love to work with couples experiencing relationship issues, helping them learn to express and listen to each other from the heart.

Through both my work as a therapist and my own life, I've often found myself in awe the innate human capacity to heal. And the more I do this work, the more in awe I am at how so much of healing begins with no longer being alone in hard things. In my therapeutic work I've witnessed the incredible resilience and transformation that can emerge when a safe space is held for one's story and experience. I continue to stand in awe of that resilience.

Most people start therapy when they feel stuck. They want someone to help them through a difficult time and know an un-biased opinion can be beneficial. They want a therapist who is honest, who understands, and can provide the tools so they can help themselves. My role is to guide you towards your true potential. I do this by considering personal history, goals and help you with awareness of your internal roadblocks. I take a relational and developmental approach and I am trained in EMDR, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Attachment Theory.

In the depths of life’s joys and sorrows lies the essence of our existence. Dr. Colin Murray Parkes once wrote, “The pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is, perhaps, the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment.” His words remind us that love and loss are inseparable; the deeper the connection, the greater the risk of pain when it changes or ends, often leading to profound suffering. This understanding deeply influences my philosophy as a counsellor, as it suggests that true healing involves accepting and exploring the full range of human emotions, including both joy and grief.

Some people seek my help to deal with current life struggles, a significant loss, or a change or life transition. For some, past childhood and/or adult abuse have had long-lasting effects on who they are and how they feel in the world. Often, people are looking for help to manage better and flourish more in life. I offer individual adult therapy for these issues. As a professional with over 20 years of experience, I also offer consultation to other therapists; I welcome questions about this aspect of my practice.

My philosophy as a counsellor is founded on a collaborative approach. Together, we explore perspectives, abilities, strengths you can draw from, as well as, barriers that may be impeding, the changes you seek. We are all experts of our own lives and you possess important knowledge, skills, and abilities vital to making changes in your life. Two counselling theories I identify most with include: Narrative Therapy and Existential/Logotherapy. In 2022 I trained in EMDR. It was transcendental both experiencing it as a client and as clinician. The research behind this therapy is so robust, I have also actively integrated into practice.

Divorce is a challenging time for all family members. For children it can be especially difficult. My philosophical approach when addressing the challenges children face as well as their parents is Two Hearts One Home. If the divorce is high conflict overcoming challenges often require a team approach. Nothing can take the place of 30 years of hands-on practical experience in working full time as a therapist and providing Direct Neurofeedback treatments to help reset your nervous system. I can quickly and effectively get to the underlying root of your issue which helps to fast-track your therapy process. I can explain difficult concepts and draw out unproductive cycles of interactions in ways that are simple, clear, that help save you time and shift patterns quickly. Based on our initial session, I will tailor-make a treatment plan that fits your specific needs.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
